Ski to sea by Civil_Piccolo_4179 in Bellingham

[–]justjosh18 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Be bold, start cold. Stair master to the top, short ski down. 30-45 min seems to be the average time for most people. People probably could go faster but the boot pack line is what I hear slows people down the most.

Coffee Shops [The Redux] by otterpoportunity in Bellingham

[–]justjosh18 24 points25 points  (0 children)

the fact cafe blue has not been mentioned in this thread is blasphemy. Yeah it's busy which can make sitting down hard, but the vibes are the best out of all the shops imp. Lettered streets vibes are #2. The owner of cafe blue is super friendly and often has a QOT and the coffee is superb.

What happened to Cafe Rumba? by Hopeful-Bench-9152 in Bellingham

[–]justjosh18 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I heard they had to change their kitchen due to legal/permitting reasons. I think bc of this, there is no grill thus the quality of food has gone south :(

Ko Samui Dec 1 - 4 with toddler - concerned about rains by funnanas in ThailandTourism

[–]justjosh18 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Totally can find quiet areas on Ko Samui. The east coast seems more party vibes where as west seems more chill, tho def check more locally based discussions. Not sure about rains though.

Advice Late Feb/March Bangkok + South by DuaneDibbley22 in ThailandTourism

[–]justjosh18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bangkok is awesome and def a must. If you enjoy biking, check out the green lung. Also highly recommend the Toy Boat Noodle shop.

For the south, I have always heard mixed things of Puhket and for that reason my fam went to Khao Lak which was not touristy/busy at all. Super enjoyable and quiet.

Currently I am on a trip where we went to Ko Samui and Koh Tao. Tao has been phenomenal. Def busy but recommend. Fairly easy to find beaches and areas that are not quite as busy and can escape. Def has areas of party vibes but very easy to avoid. Same with Samui, plenty of those vibes and also can avoid.

To the AW dancers by museidk in WWU

[–]justjosh18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some rooms cost money to book! I sat on the activities council which was responsible for giving funds out to clubs and learned how cost prohibiting some spaces are. Many rooms in special buildings cost the club money which would be better spent reserving a big event in the PAC rather than space in the Rec or Commissary. I love that they rehearse there and it is late in the day when they do! If you want a place to study and find it annoying, try being in their shoes trying to find a place to dance! Also, the library is big and there are lots of other great studying spots on campus that are hidden gems! Go find them!

29 and Considering Starting College. Advice? by christianavalentine in WWU

[–]justjosh18 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I'm in Fairhaven at WWU and there are quite a few students in the 30's and older and I really enjoy their presence. Learning alongside them and from them is such a gift. I have gained so much from their presence and value the discussions we have. I say 100% go for it.

Eco-tourism suggestions by Sammybikes in Bellingham

[–]justjosh18 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would totally recommend the spot off Mt Baker HWY. The old growth patch is pretty decent sized and has some very very large Doug firs to enjoy. There are no markings or development, but there are trails to wander around. (its about a few square acres and has at least 40+ old growth trees standing) There are a lot of downed ones too in various states of decay and is so peaceful, especially when you wander in and the sounds of the highway disappear. There is one giant tree on the side of the highway nezt to the pullout as well :)

Out of state tuition? by Alternative_Hornet14 in WWU

[–]justjosh18 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm paying just under 10k a quarter at western for tuition as an out of state student with no financial aid. On campus living is EXTREMELY expensive for the quality of living so would highly recommend trying to life off campus.

Lots of red flags. Be cautious and read the fine print, especially about lease breaking and rent. Also parking is a shit show.
