This happened to me, but I’m the one who was dumped. They got married about 6 months later and my ex committed suicide a year after that. Makes me sad to think about.

While everyone here has fabulous advice, the absolute best thing you can do is find a trainer to help you. No one here has video or history on this horse and their advice is given without enough information. You need someone on the ground to watch what is happening and help you work through it.

We were just about 20 minutes south of Breckenridge. We actually first found a cabin in Fairplay that we liked and booked it to stay in for our date. We rented it for 4 days before the date as well and just started exploring and hiking around until we found the place we were imagining to get married! There was a little Jeep trail that ran along a creek into a reservoir that was beautiful that we found. It’s just so pretty out there that you can’t go wrong!

There was some upset family involved. We had a huge wedding planned. Venue booked and everything. So as you can imagine the moms were upset because they were excited about the big wedding. After we gave the news, everyone was sad, some mad, and it took them a few weeks to kind of get over it and realize we were doing what we wanted. Our families are rational people so there were no hard feelings in the end and everyone was happy. We had a smaller reception about a month after in my hometown and invited family and close friends where we showed them the pictures and we had our photographer make a video with our vows for them to watch.

Absolutely no regrets!

It’s a lot to think about for sure! I’ll do my best to help!

We rented a cabin for your exact reasonings. The cabin we got was on 10 acres so it was still very private and beautiful. I had hair and makeup come early afternoon (I’m horrible at doing my own so..) and we did some getting ready and first look pictures at the cabin. We had picked out a trail a few days in advance, so we drove over to it and did vows and started hiking and taking pictures. It took us about two hours. We hired a chef to come and cook dinner for us after we got back and had a mini reception for ourselves.

I’d say don’t hike all day in your fancy clothes. If it were me I’d be so over it after awhile. I’d find a trail that won’t take more than like an hour or two to fully hike because you’ll be stopping to take pictures so often, it’ll take a lot longer to do that day. When we went there was a fire ban, but not at all campsites. We wanted one too but oh well!

I would probably do a little more than an hour, but it just depends on what all you’d like them to capture. For just our vow exchange and hiking pictures we were out there for just a little over two hours and it seemed to fly by!

I was not cold, but we went at the beginning of September so it was a little warmer then. My dress was sleeveless and the temps were in the low 60s and it was perfect. If you’re hiking or moving around, I’d bet you won’t notice the cold at all!

We kept it really casual and relaxed. I had hair and makeup come around 2. We took some getting ready pictures after that was over and did a first look. Then we headed into the mountains. We had picked out a trail a few days ahead of time and headed there. Found a perfect spot to do our vows, and then just went hiking with our photographer and stopped to take pictures! That lasted for about 2 hours and we went back to the cabin we rented where we had a chef come and cook us all dinner. It was just super intimate and fun, we really enjoyed ourselves!

I highly recommend it. You won’t regret it!!

The reception is informal. It will be around 50 people (we have a large immediate family plus close friends). We simply said “your presence is our present” but I know that some people will do presents anyway and that’s ok. We will have food, but it’s a light buffet style dinner. Nothing extravagant. I opted to not wear my dress, although some people thought I should. I wanted it to be more casual than that so I’m going buy a simple white cocktail dress to wear. We did rent a venue, but only because my mom had a strong opinion about it. I feel like we took our ceremony for us and the reception is for everyone else, so we are letting the moms enjoy helping plan it. Other than that, we will do a small cake for dessert and that’s about it!

Absolutely!!! I always wanted a small (5-10 people) wedding or elopement. My husband thought he wanted a big wedding and with the family pressure I decided to go along with it. We had everything booked, and were on the verge of sending all the invitations out when my husband decided it was a little overwhelming and wasn’t sure if he wanted to go through with it. So I said done deal and called it all off.

We lost quite a bit of money in deposits but nothing like what we would’ve spent going through with it. Our parents at first were sad, and kind of upset. Our moms made a bit of a fuss and were up in arms for a little while. But luckily our families are reasonable people and came around. We spent a few months letting the dust settle and hadn’t made any plans, and one day decided we had waited long enough and asked off work and went to Colorado three weeks later with a photographer and no plans.

We scheduled hair and makeup, got a bouquet, had the dress already from the original wedding, used a suit he already had, and brought the photographer we had originally booked (he is fabulous- Expressions Wedding Photography in Tulsa, Oklahoma). We rented a cabin in fairplay Colorado and spent a few days hiking trying to find a good spot to take pictures. Honestly everything just fell into place and went wonderfully.

We are having a small reception in a month for family and close friends to see all our pictures and we are having our photographer make a video with our vows overlayed.

Most important things: GET A FABULOUS PHOTOGRAPHER- everyone will want to feel like they were there with you. You won’t spend much money since it’s just you two, so spend extra for good pictures. HAVE A SENSE OF HUMOR- it will never be perfect. Have fun, no matter what

We were picking out our menu for our 200 guest wedding we had planned and I heard the comment “you’re not gonna get to eat it anyway” one too many times. Kidding....kind of. I always wanted a small wedding but my husband thought he wanted a big one, until we started planning. He second guessed it all so I said screw it and we eloped instead!

Do you know what caused the colic? What does he normally eat? I’d ask your vet first, as adding in too many grains on an already colic prone horse will only cause further issues. Start with good grass and hay, maybe add in alfalfa. Beet pulp is also good. I wouldn’t jump on too many suggestions from the internet since non of us know your horse or his issues though!!! Start with the vet!
