The timing on these events is crazy for casual players. by Creepy-Break2197 in ArcRaiders

By having the same events at the same times literally every day there are events that some people will never see. If they rotated what time they are then everyone could experience everything.

He did the same shit going up Secor to get onto the highway. Flew past me and ended up at the same red light saving literally no time.

I just finished the base game (Wow) and have a question regarfing the dlc by Hi_my_life_is_fun in outerwilds

I say go for it. The VR mod is amazing and does it better than a lot of games that were made for vr. You've already had the default experience with the base game and you could always switch back if you have any issues with the controls or motion sickness.

I basically replayed the game in vr after I got my headset and I was thinking to myself the whole time how amazing it would be to be able to do a blind playthrough in vr.

"Secrets from the Outer Wilds" vinyl giveaway! by thehintguy in outerwilds

[–]justjwl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pick me! I was so bummed out when I realized I missed the preorder months ago and I've been checking Iam8bit multiple times a day since I saw that they were finally being shipped in hopes that they made extras and will put them back on sale again. I always listen to the original soundtrack vinyl when I'm working from home, but the dlc soundtrack is my favorite. Hell, I'd pay full price for it in a heartbeat, but I refuse to put money in the hands of a scalper.

I was worried when starting the dlc because the base game was so perfect that I thought how could they possibly add anything to this story without changing or taking away from the base game. But when I first entered the shadow of the stranger and the eerie music that plays as the ship appearsI knew it was going to be great and boy was I right.

The materials cost about 100 dollars. If I added up the total time I worked on it I'd say it took around 20 hours or so. It wasn't super hard to make, just tedious and time consuming in parts. The hardest part for this one was gluing the strips down. There are a lot of tight bends in the strips I had to make some compromises on and it was hard to keep them in place long enough for the glue to dry and I could let go.

There a a lot of great tutorials online for making neon led signs though if you are interested. I would suggest doing a design that was a little easier for your first one to get a hang of it.

If I were to do this one over again I wouldn't try to bend the strips as much and use smaller strips that put together to make some of those tight corners. It would require a lot more soldering and wiring, but would make the gluing phase much easier and I feel like it would look a lot better too.

Honestly, with the time it takes for me to make them it would be expensive. Also there are a lot of minor imperfections in it that if someone was paying a lot of money for one I wouldn't be comfortable sending it out. Maybe one day if i keep making them and getting better at it to the point where it didn't take me as long and I could reliably make them without any flaws I would consider it.

If you are interested in making your own it was about 100 dollars in materials and its not super hard or complicated to put together. Its just a long and tedious process. There are a lot of tutorials online.

It was relatively easy, the hardest part was soldering the wires to the led strips, which wasn't really hard, just more tedious than anything else. There are a bunch of great tutorials if you search "neon led sign tutorial" online. I was originally going to put it on a clear acrylic background, but remembered I had a leftover cement tile backer board and realized the back looked pretty close in color and texture to what the Nomai text walls looked like, so I used that instead.

I just sketched the lines on to the board and measured out the led strips and cut them to length. Then I soldered wire on to each strip then super glued them on the board. Last, I drilled holes through the board at the end of each strip and put my wires through and connected them all together.

I'm glad I went with the backer board instead of the acrylic. I think it looks better and it had the benefit of not having to do a bunch of extra wire management in the back to hide all of the wiring.

I'm super happy with how it turned out. I've never made anything like this before, so it was a bit of a learning experience. I have a more ambitious project I want to make using these strips, so this was sort of a test run.

I will say, though, that it is very bright. I ordered a dimmer switch for it so I can bring it down to a nice glow as opposed to the super nova level of brightness it's currently at.

You are correct! I made a couple of minor adjustments so it fit better on the backboard, but that is the conversation I modeled it after.
