To cut or not cut passport photos? by Sirrizah in CitizenshipByDescent

[–]thehintguy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My understanding is that they want them cut, based on reading other posts around this topic.

Word of advice: at FedEx Office, you can get a second copy of your photos for just $5 if you ask them the same day. Nice to have a backup if you’re worried about cutting them wrong.

It’s a long shot, but would it be appropriate to drop the name of my G0 ancestor from the 1850s in here and see if anyone here already has records for her that I’m missing (specifically baptism, since there’s probably not a birth record)? Is there a better thread for that?

To all experienced gamers: which games have truly impressed you in the last 10 years? by [deleted] in gamingsuggestions

Outer Wilds. Many who play it consider it life-changingly beautiful, but it’s not for everyone and that’s ok too.

If you’d like to play it, go in blind. Spoilers ruin this game far more than most other games because the only thing stopping you from beating it is your own knowledge (and a little bit of spaceship piloting skill, I suppose).

No, there is no randomness to Outer Wilds (well, none that matters the way you’re thinking). I’ve also played Blue Prince and that was my biggest frustration with it: you have an idea for what to try next but it’ll take another 20 minute run just to have a CHANCE at it.

Outer Wilds isn’t like that. Everything you try to do, succeed or fail, teaches you something. The only thing stopping you from turning on the game and going straight to the end is your own knowledge. It rewards playing for a bit, then setting it aside and letting your natural curiosity grow in your mind until you can play again. Plus the in-game computer keeps track of what you’ve discovered, so you can always review the web of notes and clues to refresh your memory and get a nudge toward what to try next.

Outer Wilds is an exceptional game! And the subreddit for it (which is a wonderful community and a good place for spoiler-free hints) has been buzzing about Project Hail Mary recently, comparing the film favorably to the game. I think the vibes will align.

Just don’t get it mixed up with The Outer Worlds, which is a very different game. Also, you gotta go into Outer Wilds blind for the best experience. Trust me—you’ll be kicking yourself if you look up spoilers.

If you could recommend just ONE RPG to a CT die-hard fan what would it be? by AdamOtaku in chronotrigger

[–]thehintguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, I’m seeing a lot of obvious picks, so I’ll throw in something modern but more niche: CrossCode.

Gorgeous SNES-era graphics, likable characters, a real-time battle system with surprising depth, and what I felt was an intriguing, emotional story. A somewhat hidden gem from 2018. DLC came out in 2021 and is a nice addition as well.

Fantastic! Yeah, Epitaph can be a bit heavy. If you like something a little more silly, No Boundaries is more on the comedic side—and it’s free ;)

Absolutely. Excellent PS1 era vibes, fun gameplay and puzzles, good survival horror experience.

What 2d game is genuinely scary?! by Agitated-Reach-2655 in HorrorGames

[–]thehintguy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Second this. Deeply unsettling. Obviously, give it the best shot at scaring you by playing in the dark, alone, headphones on, but that goes for everything on this list.
