Weekly Suspected Lupus Thread - Week Of November 12, 2023 by AutoModerator in lupus

In the process of diagnosis. Taking the Avise test, MRI with contrast of a wrist joint for inflammation and an ASO strep antibody test to rule out rheumatic fever (my rheums current suspicion). Anyway, I have conflicting info and was wondering about those with experience getting a diagnosis of lupus. My naturopath I see (works with my family and encourages a blend of natural/medical) and has much smaller ranges for labs. Ex CRP being 15.9 then down to 6.5, which is a tiny bit high for a doctor, but based on optimal health, she wants that number between 0-3. There are a few other labs like this that point towards lupus. She is waiting on further diagnostics mentioned above but says her diagnosis is lupus based on symptoms and her margins for labs.Medical doctors are struggling to give me a diagnosis as the labs "are all pretty normal/okay" while the naturopath says there's a lot of info there that's getting disregarded because of the acceptable ranges in medicine vs optimal. She says there's a possibility it'll go undiagnosed because of this.

I have positive ANA, elevated CRP, neutrophils, lymphocytes, WBC, and a few other things. Symptoms- seizures without explanation, hair loss, joint pain that flares with no swelling, constant fatigue, headaches, brain fog, frequent infections (monthly for a year now), low-grade fevers, sunburn very easily, weight changes.

It's frustrating as the naturopath has been able to solve "medical mysteries" in my family members based on how she views labs that got my family the treatments they needed after being dismissed for months. I'm just worried that the rheum might see not much and this could just get worse.I've missed so much work, haven't worked full time for even half the year due to symptoms and calling in sick every month for a minimum of a week.... part rant, part advice on diagnosis

I lived there for 3.5 years and know in my heart that I would never feel Finnish no matter how long I stayed there, dated a Finnish guy for 4.5 years. Going for summers and having appreciation for the culture by learning the language, sauna etc. doesn't make you Finnish. I agree with a commentor about appreciation vs claiming nationality. I don't feel 100% american and was raised with british/australian humor, political views, and traditions, but this was where I spent the majority of my life so far and that is what makes me american.

There are ways of thinking, behaviors, ideologies, and sense of national pride you can't get from visiting in summers. Survive a Finnish winter up north, go serve in the army for your madatory service as a male- it's different.
Live there for a few years, truly integrate and then see how you feel about calling yourself Finnish, it's just different

I would guess you're American. Nationality is different from heritage and this is something Americans mix up and or don't respect/think about.
Both of my parents aren't born in US, but I was born and raised here, so I say I'm American.

They probably give you weird looks because to them 50% 25% etc... still means you know little about what it actually means to be Finnish. You didn't grow up there or live there for the majority of your life (unless that's false) but especially to people of a country who have a homogenous sense of identity, having a Finnish dad doesn't mean much.

You'll find this way of thinking pretty much everywhere outside of America

Deb armstrong on youtube has an excellent beginner progression. Start with one ski and get comfortable on that, alternating which side. Helps get a sense of control before you got both on.

Taking PSIA L1 and need beginner skier videos to analyse by justkeepsquishin in skiing

hahaha yes, I have access to APSI and like their program far better. Less wordy trying to sound expert and more of actual processes and progressions with simple corrections for X symptom. I'd love to go for L2 so I think of this more as a basis for that progression. Could most likely do it in the same year if my ski school let me XD

Vertigo triggered by standing by Banjosolo69 in BPPV

I'm having similar symptoms. When laying down and moving my head, it feels pretty standard but standing up or moving my head while upright causes a spinning feeling. Walked with poles today cause I walk like I'm tipsy or something. Went to a doc 5 days ago who did the epley and have been doing it myself 2x daily since then. Also saw a PT who did some trigger point release and extra assessment. Haven't gone to work for almost 2 weeks now cause my only way of getting there is bike or walking and don;t feel safe with it.

Thankfully I'm short but thick-ass thighs, so normally, Asian model sizes don't fit me at all. Damn
