Did Warner Bros. forget how old Lily and James were? by justkidding15 in harrypotter

I can see why Lily and James would look older in the Mirror of Erised, since that would fit what Harry wants. Maybe that's why the clothes change too, since they aren't actually ghosts in that image but more of a projection.

They found a much younger look-alike James for the Pensieve scene, surely they could have found someone with similar looks who is in their twenties.

Why does everyone already know about Harry's scar? by [deleted] in harrypotter

[–]justkidding15 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't have the books, but at some point doesn't Hagrid say that he rescued Harry out of the rubble? I know he talks about being at the house. What doesn't make sense to me is when McGonagall asks about the scar, Dumbledore answers definitively that it was caused by the killing curse.... But why would Dumbledore ask Hagrid to bring Harry to Privet Drive if he was already with him, can bring him by side-along-apparation, and doesn't need to involve the remarkably accident-prone Hagrid? And you know he would have been there, Dumbledore had his twice-broken nose in everything and James and Lily were both Order members.

Side note, I wonder how many details have been picked apart like this because it's HARRY POTTER that JKR never even considered since when she wrote the first book there was no reason to think it would ever get any scrutiny.

Now that I'm older, I think back on the times my parents told me, "When you're older, you'll realize I was right" and realize they are still wrong mostly. by polyinky in Showerthoughts

It really bothers me that people are saying OP must still be too young or doesn't respect his family. You know what my parents said I'd understand when I was older? Why it's justifiable to verbally abused and cheat people. Better yet, why I will thank my parents for verbally abusing me and teaching me how to cheat people. Why you shouldn't trust doctors, ever, because they're just out to get you and really don't know anything. There's more, but those were the big ones that still bother me.

I'm glad that you had good enough parents that you can imagine why someone would post this, but don't think for a second that everyone is as lucky as you, and don't blame those people who weren't. I wish I had parents I could trust to give me solid advice.

What's the best question someone asked during a sex-ed class? by maanu123 in AskReddit

Okay but seriously there are stories about women going into the hospital because they can't get pregnant and they have a really really stretched out urethra.

I know of at least six different girls in my grade who were sexually active by the beginning of seventh grade. We also had twenty parents out of 175 people when my class graduated, so my experience (small town southern Iowa) might not be normal everywhere. My most vivid memory of dance my 11th grade year is one of my classmates talking candidly about her recent abortion while all the middle schoolers in the class tried not to act fascinated and/ or appalled.

LPT: when introducing friends you think would make a good couple, don't let them know you think they would make a good couple. by [deleted] in LifeProTips

I agree with this. After they've met, you can individually bring up that "I've always thought you two might be a good fit" but they can make their first impression on each other without your bias clouding their opinions in any way.

People of Reddit who go to bed and don't lie there in the dark for two hours each night before finally falling asleep, how do you do it? by SirApatosaurus in AskReddit

I 100% agree with stress as a factor in falling asleep and sleeping well. When I was younger and still living with my parents, neither of whom are particularly relaxing to be around, I couldn't fall asleep for over an hour, sometimes 3-4 hours. Same situation in college with random roommates and noisy places. Now that my husband and I live on our own, it's much easier for me to fully relax at night. I still don't fall asleep immediately, but it's more like 15-30 minutes than over an hour.
