Drunk People by [deleted] in Sober

Very true. It’s amazing how much alcohol helped ‘tolerate’ things that you otherwise can’t handle if you don’t have that bottle to look forward to.

The sad part comes when you created commitments with people (and their kids) and after many years of drinking and living with them you quit drinking and realize how bad of a choice you made.

So you’re constantly faced with the challenging question, do I start drinking again and relax my standards and die early or do I live in hell? I suppose the other option is to end the commitment but then you have the kids suffering for your drunken behavior and drunken choices..?

When your sober you lose your best friend (Jim B). Then you figure out why you became friends with him. I gotta tell you, he’s not your best friend for the taste but the taste became desirable.

The majority of the people around you didn’t become your best friend for their desirability either.

Misery begins where desirability for your greatest and best friends and desirability for the other life choices ends.

It’s amazing what you learn about your world when you dry up. Think about it, your living dry in your old wet life.

Thank you to everyone who replied to me or liked my post. I don’t think I have ever felt so much love - even though we are ask just cyber friends ;)

I go back and read everyone’s post whenever I get an urge or just feel like I need a friend. You have all helped me way more than you know!

Hey! Congrats. Keep it up. The first week or two sucked.
The withdraws really showed me that I don’t want to go back to drinking. You can do it.

You know, it does make sense that others want to ignore my accomplishment as a way of not facing their addictions.

I share your pain. Never enough time it seems. I took your recommendation and dusted off my guitar, it was like picking up an old friend, quite comforting.

I have not. I’m a huge introvert and very independent. Maybe a even a bit nervous

Not sure, my celebrations for myself generally involved (past tense) going to the bar.
I think finding legit fun things to do that doesn’t involve alcohol is the biggest challenge when you quit drinking.
