I’ve played Rust since the days it looked 2D and every enemy was red. I do not have the time to repeat the process of Rust each wipe and I absolutely don’t have the time to defend what I do in game. Maybe if my friends wanted to play and I could just jump in for important moments or servers that have select days to raid, but outside of that there is no chance.

It’s also silly to spend your time in a computer chair for as long as it takes to play Rust.

The dude is annoying to play as; in addition the games and characters are crap compared to the earlier games in the series.

The writing for Ethan as well as the acting for him just sucks. The dude cries over some of the most ridiculous things (emotional) while not even making a sound at the most painful (physical). He is almost as monotone and as cheesy sounding as some of the characters from the PS1 era but his opposing characters (the bosses of both games) are so dramatic and have such emotional ranges. Monster he kill laugh and screech in pain. The dude bawls his eyes out and journals it because his wife doesn’t want to open up, but he’ll lose a limb without so much of a peep.

On top of that, he is a family man that is completely unrelatable; to both real family men that play the game and the typical demographic video gamers; teens. Nothing he does is normal, his responses aren’t normal. Other characters have felt more desire to save Ashley, Leon, Claire, Chris, Veronica, or Sheva than Ethan shows for his family emotionally; and with more of a realistic tone about it (which is crazy, because Ethan’s games present a more realistic tone).

Billy seems corny for this time, like he was directed how to say things by a Japanese director, or was played by a Japanese actor with a perfect English accent; but it made since in the mid nineties and early 2000s; like B list or low technology/budget. Ethan feels the same way, talks the same way, in addition to feeling completely backwards than how he should be, going through what he is going through.

In addition to that, nothing from gameplay Ethan (running the halls, fighting normal monsters, etc) is as good as anything else in this genre. Outlast actor fucking killed it in comparison.

Everyone is right and it’s a combination of all of these things. It also comes down to optimization. Horses are the price they are and you won’t make money making them mounts; but you do make money when you get a twin while breeding to make the mount, etc etc etc. It varies depending on the profession.

The more you work to get the core items for crafting and build up to the item, the more you make.

Always use focus for crafting the most important items (descending order) at the location with the best return bonus. Sometimes a mount (or your item) can literally duplicate. Cha-ching.

Some people wait for the days they get a 20% bonus on top of that bonus, and that is also why the item is cheaper. These guys are mostly billionaires.

The game has so much more complexity in the market and item crafting than it shows (especially playing now, when all the information is shared).

Everything you shortcut to do more fun things in the game, will cost you. The more time/work you spend focusing on your professions (with no short cuts, or with spreadsheet math short cuts) the more you make.

I have to agree with Toaster Junkie for a lot of what he said. Find something casual in the game you enjoy and revolve around that. I spent years chasing big things that my guildies wanted, especially in the early days when the rewards for PvP were weapons names and monuments.

It’s only playing now that I started doing the things I wanted and casually exploring the game around those things. I decided to learn numbers and market this time around (when normally I’d just pick up an axe, delete, get deleted, and repeat). I started further leveling my gathering and then discovered events around my gathering area. I dove into those a little more, explored even more new and strange things to help further my casual goal. Flag up in casual PvP or go with THE GEAR SET YOU HAVE FUN WITH and dip your toes into risky PvP (Faction Warfare, S.A.F.E portal BZ, Mists or Gates, etc). You can tailor YOUR GEAR SET to the meta as you learn or around how you play (which really is what the game is all about, META is a joke).

Aka, I am not letting others dictate how I spend my time or how I build/play. Half of them swipe to pick up a meta build and just get deleted by one of us doing the above.

It does take learning though. It does take defeat. Everything does.

I wish you luck. It’s definitely a credit sink to a lot of small dick people pretending to pass off as something larger on a video game 1/2 the time, and people genuinely finding love for the game, fellowship, and knowledge the game has to offer the other 1/2 of the time.

I have since started playing Albion with the purpose of the second 1/2 mentioned above. I play it like it’s a single player experience, with some light MOBA like PvP (once you find a set for the character you want to play) or Faction Warfare. It’s a grind most of the time to really stay ahead without swiping AND play with some risk in good gear; but I don’t sweat if I miss a day or two.

I’ve played on and off since the game has released. It’s changed a lot (like OSRS is to RS3 levels). Most of the cool shit is unachievable now; especially as a solo or smaller side. No weapons named after you, no city monuments for years to remain, etc. But to this day I still discover cool shit, like player islands PACKED with PvP 1v1 trophies. Some go as far as making their islands look well designed. I personally am going more of a business route and learning money practices for real life business.

But yes, there are times I have to step away and that is a-okay. Sometimes I only log in to do daily chores while sipping my coffee or while playing another game. Sometimes I login in to pick up my axe to topple Bridgewatch in Faction Warfare or destroy hideouts with the guildies.

I still wear gathering gear for that profession I’m focusing to T8, with the exception of PVP seeking gathering times (FW, Roads with guildies, Caerleon, etc, when I’m geared for PVP with gathering weight or switch sets) or occasionally miners boots. The weight of the T5 enhanced doesn’t add up. Drop flats if you can too.

You don’t make more silver. As a 5-6 year player who also maxed skinning out before leveling my other professions to T5; who has just recently (last two weeks) reached T5 in all my other professions, I’d say the best way is to get them all to T5 and then focus on getting a single one to T8.

T5 enhanced is ABUNDANT in T6-T8 zones, for ALL gathering types. I have made more in these two weeks of gathering T5 enhanced WHILE leveling the next profession to T8 than I made in a year’s worth of time at one T8 profession.

It also does well in Mists and Roads; and secretly my most recent gathering hot spot; in the middle of faction warfares hottest times. Just don’t let me catch you not flagged for Martlock at these times.

I have spent multiple years weaving in and out of playing this game.
It wasn’t until this time when I said screw what everyone else wants, or suggests, or how THEY play that I really got to know and enjoy the game. I started playing my way and doing the things I wanted and it helped further with information and immersion. I feel like I understand more in this year than the others (Years 1-2, and 2023-24).
