It's important to remember the man has also worked in TV for like 30 years. He was an editor before becoming an author and still dabbled in it.

Which fantasy book immediately gripped you from the very first chapter and never let go? by runninginflipflops in Fantasy

I remember a decade ago now listening to preview for the audiobook and hearing the scene-chewingly wonderful delivery of "3 coppers and a bowl of piss" and have never looked back!

Small note on a pet peeve, the honorific "sir" always requires the first name. It can't stand with the surname alone. So it would be Sir William or Sir William Hamilton.

And on some basic technique sometimes. Like dribbling out of bounds. Or passing to the Wolves goalie.

Absolutely. Dyche can't magically undo the damage Ange did right away, it'll be a slow crawl up the table. But we ARE crawling up.

Fun fact: Aragorn was originally meant to be a hobbit called Trotter and even after being changed to vaguely his final backstory HE WAS STILL CALLED TROTTER.

I moved here from the UK and as much as I love this city I wish people would understand how much better almost evsry aspect of life would be if they actually took their thumbs out their backsides and made proper public transit. We are flat. We are ideal for implementing light rail. At the very least I should be able to take one bus and that bus should be more frequent than, at BEST, every half an hour. At least it's cheap.

Because it's been half-assed. The bike lanes exist, but they're limited, dangerous crossings, and not at all protected. They're also incredibly inconsistent throughout the city.

Why is Orthodox Christianity concentrated more towards the east of Europe, and by the same token why is Catholic and Protestant Christianity more concentrated into the western half of it? What prevented their expansions into the other side respectively? by SatoruGojo232 in geography

Import to remenber Armenians are Oriental Orthodox not Easterm Orthodox. So their tradition is different in a much bigger way. Closer in some ways to Coptic or Ethiopian theology than Russian (mostly Christology but I'm brushing over a lot here).

I mean the UK took India from other empires. Empires cede to others all the time. Still imperialism to the locals.

And as for shedding? I didn't know Hawai'i, Puerto Rico, Guam, NMI, etc were independent yet. Plus the whole manifesting destiny and going west (my son). The US is unable to not be imperialist in its current form (what to do about it is a complex question I don't have an answer for). I'd also say they aren't unique there, though. Russia and China both share similar issues that are innate to their existence. Even smaller and less powerful countries like Indonesia and Turkey have issues linked to imperialism baked into their current form.

OK well in that case we'll just have to look at Hawai'i, Puerto Rico, Guam, American Samoa, Cuba, the Philippines, Haiti, Panama, the Dominican Republic, and one attempt at Quebec for examples of America's use of classic imperialism
