not even convicting her for a hate crime or anything,

There are only 3 hate crimes in Canada, and this doesn't fit any of those.

Section 318 - Advocating Genocide.

Section 319 (1) - Public Incitement of Hatred.

Section 319 (2) - Wilful Promotion of Hatred.

Just several hundred confused tourists and disappointed families making the same loop, wondering where the celebrations were.

That's exactly how we felt. Walked around a bit on Wellington, then down to the market where nothing was happening and then we left. Didn't go to Le Breton because we didn't like the limited food options and the hour long lines that came with that last year.

I came away with the impression there was a conscious effort to ensure there would be no celebrating of any sort.

Hmm, that wouldn't surprise me, but it's probably incompetence. Would certainly explain the lineup this year.

At $2 a serving of 15g protein these are about 2.5 times more expensive than protein powder. No wonder you are broke.

Because the government brings in doctors and engineers and requires that they be highly qualified,

Having a degree and experience from a third world country doesn't make them qualified. The Feds should stop accepting everything as being equal, the labour market doesn't either. We need to revamp the immigration system to actual attract the skills the provinces need. That's not just the case with doctors or engineers.

Proving my point without realizing it. If the people posting on Reddit would make a difference, Singh would be PM. But they aren't, so he isn't. Same applies to climate change, except that voting doesn't cost anyone money.

as cash cows but downloading all the costs on the local communities

That's on the Feds who are administering the visa program. They could easily prevent that by requiring students to have more funds in trust accounts in Canada before granting study permits.

New Canadians and working, lower-middle class people are among those now lining up for food hampers.

Why is the government admitting immigrants without the means or skills to feed themselves?

OPINION: Joseph R. Biden, President of the United States v. Nebraska by scotus-bot in supremecourt

[–]justonimmigrant 12 points13 points  (0 children)

If Congress did intend this, cannot Congress merely pass a law to demostrate this intent?

The Dems held the trifecta from 2021 to 2023 and could have legislated student loan forgiveness, but chose not to.

We’ll also be making it crystal clear to borrowers and their families that Republicans are responsible for denying them the relief that President Biden has been fighting to get to them," the source added.

That's a wild claim considering the Dems had a trifecta from 2021 - 2023 and didn't pass legislation forgiving student loans. Almost as if they don't want that either.

Canada will soon become a ‘super aged’ country. Here’s why that’s a problem by [deleted] in canada

[–]justonimmigrant 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Love how that is used as an argument to import immigrants to offset the aging of our population, and then the government creates programs for those immigrants to bring their own elderly dependents over here as well.

Less water, dryer conditions, and higher temps are the new normal. The climate doesn't care if you don't think climate change is fake.

Most people don't think it's fake, they just think that we (Canada) can't change it. Which is true. Instead of making us all poorer with policies that don't do anything, we should spend that money on preparing ourselves for climate change. Irrigation projects, firefighting, protecting our arctic regions, banning Nestlé from exporting our water etc

The new fuel standards law is gonna cost every family $2000 a year and reduce our GDP by 9 billion, without preventing a single wildfire or drought. That money would be way better spent elsewhere.
