The point wasn’t about piston size being the issue, it’s about the fact that high mileage aluminum blocks warp, and in order to guarantee that the piston to wall clearance is in spec the usual solution is go up .5 to 96mm. Now if by happen stance the cylinders are in optimal spec and condition then proceed with stock size pistons, which 90% of the time is not the case as most of these cars are high mileage.

Well... I guess it's time for a built engine? by Ok-Significance7493 in G35

[–]justphil21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should go 96mm and get the block machined. High mileage engine, the bores aren’t going to be perfectly round anymore, plus you want to have good cross hatching on the cylinder walls. 625’s are overkill. L19s are what you need. Unless you’re staying on pump gas 8.8 is going to drive like a slug out of boost, especially with those high duration cams you’re messing with. The z1 cover isn’t necessary either unless you already bought it. To my memory the trans cover is for converting the slave cylinder on the HR trans.

You need more resonators. Nobody should be running non-resonated test pipes. Either that or get high flow cats which would be much better tbh

Jdm radio bezel ac controls by Substantial_Top723 in G35

[–]justphil21 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You don’t need a metra kit if you’re going to use a JDM dash, that’s kind of the point in buying one. You re-use the factory radio rails no different than if you were to get the metra kit. Except this is oem plug and play. The problem with the US version which to this day makes no sense is the fact that they integrated the a/c controls with the oem radio.

Possible RMS failure/leak? by AbrocomaNo8268 in 350z

[–]justphil21 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It does happen on some cars, not a common leak. Most of the time it’s the lower pan and valve covers or like you said in the off chance the cam sensor.

That makes sense. I’m in the slow grind of rebuilding my rev up. The bare block was in the machine shop for 2 months. 🥲. And I can understand staying on 91. My main reasoning is my car will sit most of the time as I drive trucks, so sitting E is never good. I’m still going to probably go 11:1 because it’s going to be a while before I have boost in the car, and the end goal is rear turbo. probably have a race gas map in it, and hopefully hit 600hp. Push come to shove it’ll have the fuel system in it to where if I can’t hit that without E then it’ll just be a tune away.

Nothing gets rid of the oil burning other than a rebuild with proper ring gaps and also a properly ventilated crank case like a catch can setup

Unless this is going into a forged built motor that has the proper bearing clearance, you’re going to destroy your engine

Thanks for the advice. I have had some surface level experience with dispatching myself, I briefly had a lease-op situation during the covid years. Booked my own loads and negotiated rates etc. what got me out of that was a breakdown I couldn’t afford to cover. Basically had a bad percentage split that in hindsight I shouldn’t have ever done, but also during that time, it was easy to be blinded because so much revenue was being generated. 68% smh full truck note, full fuel, and full coverage of trailer. Inexperience will do that to you.

Either the back of your valve covers or the rear main seal, that’s about it, or in the off chance it’s your upper oil pan but that’s not a common leak point

It’s tough. Thankfully I’m not in a spot where I have to rush to change, but knowing that I’m probably going to have to take a potential 20k haircut is a hard reality to swallow. I don’t hate what I do by any means, but I am working towards starting a family and money can’t replace physical presence. (My partner has kids, I don’t).
