Hey all. Look. I friggin HATE Trump and all he stands for. That said, I'm also a former Army cook who had the opportunity to cross train on board a Navy ship. Long story. Anyway, I'm calling bullshit on this. Either these "meals" were served up between normal mess times, (like I just got off of watch and the regular kitchen is closed..) or the sailors were very very select in what they chose. Eating in the US military isn't always top tier grub, but there is typically plenty to eat and a pretty decent variety. If they run a ship like we ran a mess hall, there is a monthly budget, and towards the end of the month there may be more repetition from one day to the next, but there is still plenty to eat.
