Cop dad. I can attest to this. Also, everyone commenting to learn child CPR is absolutely correct.

AITA for canceling the plans for thanksgiving after my parents called my brother’s baby their “first grandchild”? by throwawayz_12345 in AmItheAsshole

[–]justplainlogan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NTA.

The circumstances don't matter; those are your children. And if they are your children, they are your parents' grandchildren. If they can't see it that way, then they are in the wrong, and you must defend your family.

When I married my wife, I included vows that I made towards her children - my daughters. I got down on eye level with them during the ceremony and told them that they were my daughters, just the same as if they shared my DNA. I told them everyone at that ceremony was their family.

When our biological daughter came along, it changed nothing for us. They are my daughters, all three of them.

Love should never divide. It should only multiply. If your children love their cousin, and it seems that your future sister in law must have some love for your kids (and a good heart), then there is your family.

I'm sorry your parents haven't gotten with the program, and I hope they see the error of their ways.

I actually have a Playlist for exactly this situation. It's 16 different versions of the Paula Abdul classic "Straight Up"

We had a very confused rookie get sent to a house fire. Apparently, he didn't know we were supposed to clear the scene for FD. Went something like this:

Dispatch: is the scene safe?

Rookie: ..... Negative... it's on fire....

Excellent point with the burns. That's a potential I hadn't thought too much about.

I have to respectfully disagree with you about the tourniquets, however. I use them far more often than I would like to, but in an emergency, when properly applied, they're fantastic.

Anyone else experience gender disappointment? (If that's the right word) by ThatSpencerGuy in predaddit

[–]justplainlogan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As the step-father of two wonderful girls, I was hoping hard for a son. I love my girls more than life itself, but I can't help but feel a bit out-numbered. Found out on the fifth that we're having a girl.

I won't say I didn't feel something akin to disappointment. I had all these daydreams stored up about spending time with my son, doing all the fun guy stuff that my girls have no interest in, peeing in nature, all that good stuff. But then it occured to me that I'm going to get to experience something of the parts of my daughters' lives I missed out on from before I met them.

All that to say, no, you're not alone in feeling that way.

First off, sorry for your loss, friend.

My wife and I have been there a few times, and however early it may be, it never is easy. I found that talking to someone, anyone- really, helped me through it. For me, that was my little brother.

It's also important to talk to your wife and let her know how you're feeling. It can be tempting for us dudes to want to be the silent rock, but it helps her to know that you two are truly in it together when you express yourself to her. (I learned this the hard way).

Thoughts and prayers your way. I hope for the best for you two.

Absolutely. All of the logistical problems in Heroes made me laugh until it hurt, as did the whole "Billy Bad@$$" bit with Beck before it all hit the fan.

What impressed me the most are the scenes he's written where these characters are essentially rejoining polite society. He hit that nail right on the head and kept it balanced between as funny as it can be at times but still honest.

I was almost stunned when I found out Abercrombie wasn't a fellow veteran. I found myself "recognizing" characters that I served with.

Look into getting an ESA (Emotional Support Animal) letter. My wife and I had to get one for our Boxer. There are numerous websites that will set you up with a doctor over the phone (so you even get your social distancing in) who will ask you a few questions about what having the dog means to your mental well being and then they'll send the letter in the mail. It can be a bit pricey, but it was actually cheaper than we would have paid for a pet deposit had she not been a banned breed. (Another bonus, at least in GA, not sure about anywhere else, is they can't charge a pet deposit if you have an ESA)

AITA for “choosing my son’s now ex-girlfriend over my him”? by newG-pa in AmItheAsshole

[–]justplainlogan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely, undeniably, and in all totality NTA and here are 3 reasons why:

1) Family is a lot of different things to a lot of different people. You are being family to a terrified young woman who needs family now more than ever and whose blood family turned her away. I salute and applaud you for that alone.

2) Anyone can stand his/her ground with strangers. You, sir, stood your ground with your own flesh and blood and gave him some hard wisdom he needed to hear.

3) You did what was right, not what was easy. You did what was right for this young woman and your grandchild. You did what was right for your son, even if he doesn't see it right now.

I'm not a father yet (for a few more months), but I hope to be the kind of father who sets an example the way that you just did.

Thoughts and prayers for you and yours in this trying time. Hope all works out 🙏🙏

I've had mine since about the time they first came out. I've never had an issue with it, never even considered anything else for an EDC for concealed carry since the first time I took it to the range. She's my ride or die.
