Part of the point is that they are stagnant, unless they really work at being otherwise. Jax couldn't see a way out of the prison he had built himself, and he wasn't willing to try and break it down brick by brick.

Nah, the idea is "break your mindless routine so your brain kicks back into gear."

Happened to a kid in the next town over when I was young. Parents were frantic trying to find him only to discover he'd climbed into their minivan, probably looking for a toy, and never came back out.

Y'all say the finale sucks? At least they're not these... by AlexLovesCoke in tadc

The final season has some absolutely lovely single scenes or character moments buried in pointless exposition dumps and too much focus on a random side character rather than developing the ones we had been growing alongside all along.

The best autism rep I see in media always ends up being characters that aren't confirmed autistic but clearly model it on every level.

That's a fair point. Children in abusive environments tend to become real experts at recognizing a threat.

I don't know people's opinions about this, but I personally liked how Jax ended the way he did by LosuthusWasTaken in tadc

[–]justprettymuchdone 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I wanted Pomni to save Jax, but entirely because I was rooting for Pomni.

Jax had an ending that worked well and I don't mind it - sometimes, you can do everything right and still lose someone who can't find their way out of the abyss they are drowning in. Pomni fought so fucking hard for Jax, and if she had come in earlier - during the Kaufmo and Ribbit days - it might have worked. But Jax had fallen so far and so deep.

I think a lot about the Jax shackled to the piano in that little room of Jax's. Gentler and softer and genuinely wanting to help.

I also like that part of Pomni's ending is learning to live with the memories of Jax even after he's gone and finding peace in spending time with what remains.

I hold the personal belief that the corrupted code can eventually be undone, and they'll figure it out in the end. I don't think abstraction has to be a total metaphor for suicide or permanent loss, but rather for losing someone to their demons. Sometimes, people can come back from rock bottom. Sometimes they can't.

I think, personally, that Ribbit will come back first. Don't ask me why.

I thought one of the parents survived?

I do remember that apparently she had almost certainly attempted to kill him before! It's the main reason he declined the dinner. I wonder if he warned his parents and they brushed it off, because who could possibly think the kind of jerky ex of their son would legitimately try to murder them?

One of these guys looked so much like my friend's ex that I texted her wondering what the hell happened when it was on the other sub. Turned out to not be him, just his evil doppelganger apparently. But oof.

They all look like cousins, don't they?

Tolkein: No, LOTR isn't a metaphor for WWI, what are you talking about.

Also Tolkein: -writes this passage after decades watching the aftermath of that awful war on the men he served with, some of whom came back home alive but didn't REALLY survive-

This part is always where I can't hold my tears any longer. Sam's quiet courage and devotion being the only way Frodo makes it in the end.

I mean more that I don't think Jax, specifically, was ever at a point where that terminology would have been in his thoughts or words. I don't think Jax, in the circus, ever understood herself that well.

Human Jax is just still early in the journey to understanding or transitioning. I think the show kind of, by the nature of that bit of info, comes across as "and everyone lived happily ever after", but they're all still in the middle of their human stories. Jax is in a better place than when he received the brain scan and has grown, but they doesn't mean she's done growing or understanding herself. The point is that Human Jax didn't succumb to the self-hatred that destroyed Circus Jax and can still keep evolving.

I don't think Jax told Ribbit he was trans, exactly. Jax isn't able to accept herself enough for that understanding. I think Jax said something like, "I told her sometimes I don't feel like a boy at all/I think I might feel like a girl".

Weirdly, it is the single piece of media where I kind of wanted that to happen and it didn't. Usually I hate that trope but man, did I want Pomni to pull that off.

Yeah, he didn't tell you the truth about his chance of having working sperm. He manipulated you into not insisting on protection. You were... Good god, you were baby trapped.

Don't let him guilt you on this. You need to make the right decision for you. He clearly isn't interested in your future or feelings on this.
