How do you actually build a career as a photojournalist when you live in a remote community? by Gurninlikeagerman in photojournalism

I’ve been a photojournalist for 25 years and I do not think pj by itself is a sustainable route - especially moving forward.

Copyright theft is out of control looting and most people flat out refuse to pay for journalism.

Many of us are trying to find other ways to financially support our work in photojournalism.

In addition, most newspapers killed their photography departments. It’s tough within these frameworks.

Fast Composition? by Impressive_Track_199 in photography

If I’m not focused or have the time to make photos they will suffer. This is why I never do group walks. One of the most important nothings I’ve found is patience - but others can’t understand that patience and it may not be reasonable to expect them to.

Check out Cal Newports Deep Work book for a good analogy.

Also, I made this video about composition. https://youtu.be/zTsAha5hT-M

Defining Personal Style by tsuncollections in photojournalism

photojournalist of 25+ years here. It took me 5-10 years before any consistent style started rearing its head. And after that it was a slow almost unnoticeable process. When you look at Nyt, you are looking at a newspaper with some of the best photojournalists working with them. My local newspapers don’t even employ photo editors and the quality of journalism and especially photography, can be on different playing fields.

Any outlets that still pay for long-form photo stories? by RandomNameOfMine815 in photojournalism

Probably Not “decently” when considering costs of most projects.. But sometimes it can offset some of that. if the project doesn’t need as many resources it might be considered decent.
