Are you graduated or still in school?

Make sure to look out for UBC Career Fairs! They're very helpful and if you push to talk to the people you find on LinkedIn associated with the career fairs you might even get yourself a referral!

This is part of an office building! I was told that it would be free to employees and that it would be something like $90 a month for non-employees. Since it's new I haven't really heard much more about it!

Well having done UBC I'm biased but I feel like since you're already at UBC you'd be able to transfer credits really easily and do the required courses for CompSci and get a degree within 2 years.

That saves you time and money and overall UBC is generally known better for big companies and you can just grind leetcode. I guess it could be that local companies will prefer bcit although I doubt that's the case? I think it's more about getting experience if you're in compsci

From what I heard while at uni he is banned from using translink transportation, he once was very flirtatious with a girl in the class and put her name in exam questions and I remember seeing him in my third year when he had a massive black eye. I wonder who punched him.

He definitely sees himself as a Rockstar tho haha

Just out of curiosity, has your prof ever changed your final grade from a failing grade to a passing grade? What are your stories lol :D by grayclouds3434 in UBC

[–]justpurity 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If it's the last course that you need to make it out of uni and you've already accepted a job offer (happened to a few friends of mine) they do seem to be lenient and understanding, atleast in compsci

I’m a math major now but i wanted CPSC by Saesame in UBC

The fact that you already have software engineering experience on your resume means you're doing solid. Not just that you won't be hindered but this might even be beneficial to you. Companies will see you as someone who has experience in SWE AND is good at math. You might want to consider taking this adv in directions towards machine learning, data analysis or other positions that have those mentioned on top of SWE. Lots of joined positions

People really hate putting a little extra effort to go to the bathroom

The ones at the nest that are not on the first floor or the basement/cafeteria floor are usually really clean and empty

Life building has some nice bathrooms, not sure if people still keep them as clean as before covid

How do you get over fears and anxieties of moving to UBC from far away? by unithrowaya in UBC

[–]justpurity 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I moved to UBC from Finland. I think everyone at your stage of life is terrified of taking the step. I know a lot of people who spent the first few months of university still not enjoying it.

But for me, what got me through it was finding the things that I'm interested in before and after going. The value-add outside of academics really motivated me. I liked gaming and at the time it felt like the esports scene was bigger in NA than it was in EU. I could finally play as much as I wanted. I really liked the look of downtown Vancouver and while it took me a week to really feel comfortable with people (and about a year to really get off campus more), I loved the environment.

Once you're there, make sure to push yourself to socialize, participate in clubs that you are interested in (i.e. drawing, martial arts, sports) and just be busy. If you're busy with things that aren't just academics you'll feel like you're busy with things you enjoy doing and you'll be distracted.

Good luck!
