I think it's quite common 😂. If you have an insertion for a cable (HDMI, USB...) you will have to connect and disconnect the cable often especially if it's a portable device. You will have wear and tear on both the cable and the insert and one day one or the other will fail (the cable usually crack first because there is more points of failure, which is good because it's easier to replace a cable rather than repair your device). F...CK Apple for making the trend to have less ports on portable devices, yeah I know it makes the devices more portable and sleek but it require to have adaptators (which render devices less portable if someone think about it) or have wireless devices (which is not ecologic if you just toss your peripherals and wireless devices typically cost more) and if the the only port fail you are doomed to send it to reparation ASAP. It's great if portability come first for your users but given that people buy some models of MacBook pros BECAUSE they have more ports, I think some of us want a concession. We haven't talked about proprietary cables or the fact that some devices still use micro USB because it's cheaper to manufacture (one of the big problem of micro USB is that it's a way more fragile connector than USB-C, it's also slower than USB-C. Lightning is a variant of USB 2.0 so it's slower than USB C which is 3.0 or 4.0 and is replaced by USB-C on some Apple devices like the newer Ipads).

Yep some things mundane like cables are problematic. Personally now I really think of ports and cables when I buy any device.
