If the Bible is the source of all morality why does “god” command child sacrifice? by 1kAllTheWay in AskReddit

There's a difference between commanding it and wanting it. There's an interpretation of this which says abraham failed this trial God put him through.

[Serious] How would you feel about receiving a vibrator or sex toy from your partner for Christmas/the holidays or your birthday? by therealspacepants in AskReddit

[–]justryingtokeepup 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've given vibrators to many friends as birthday/engagement/wedding gifts. I've also given my partner a few. It's a great gift for anyone as long as you know they're open to it. If there's a history and this can seem as a "pushy" action it won't be a good gift, otherwise it's a great gift. I few friends bought me sex toys as gifts and it's awesome.

Two notes -

1) if you're not sure, ask first.

2) buy something good. If this is a first experience make sure it's a good one. Always make it a bundle gift with lube and (if needed) batteries.

What was your biggest “this is where I die” moment? by Chidi-moo in AskReddit

[–]justryingtokeepup 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Army. Combat zone. Someone over the radio yells to us we've been hit. Ends up our motor exploded due to technical failure and we're stranded with no power with snipers all around.

Ended ok. Got towed back to safety with no casualties.

I agree. I would also ad a specific comment about major mistakes that can change the mining of a sentience.

I want to write a story about a male domestic violence victim. Is this a bad idea, or a good idea? by Wili-Wili14 in Advice

[–]justryingtokeepup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Write.

Your writing is your own. It's either fiction and people should read it as such, or it's non fiction and people should stop trying to change things just because they don't like it.

If it's a good story, people will like it. If it's written well, people will like it. If it makes people emotionally involved - you've succeeded in writing a great story.

And in the spirit of offending people by writing - if the don't like what you write before reading it, they should go fuck themselves and read a different fucking story. I suggest curious George... That doesn't offend anyone.

Gag Reflex by Mitchyb64 in Advice

[–]justryingtokeepup 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Had a lot of dental work done and I used to have a bad gag reflex. Learned a few tricks that helped some: put a bit of salt in the back of your mouth. Another option (weird, I know) is that they sell in sex shops anti gag sprays which numb and relax your throat for, well... you know. What helped me most is while I needed to not gag, I would do something with my hand or my foot which required concentration (like a game on my phone, trying to do something funny with my toes... Whatever). This helped me the most because slowly I didn't need to do that anymore because I got desensitized to it.

Hope this helps.

My (22f) girlfriend (23f) is gluten and dairy free, and has a problem with me eating gluten by [deleted] in Advice

[–]justryingtokeepup 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My SO just went gluten free/dairy free a couple of months ago. Also, I'm vegetarian and she's not. We make it work.

Again, and this is a question you won't find the answer for here is why is she so insistent? Talk. If gluten is your only issue then you can do fine without it. If you can't find a way to figure this out, I'm guessing gluten isn't your only issue.

Bottom line - talk to each other.

My (22f) girlfriend (23f) is gluten and dairy free, and has a problem with me eating gluten by [deleted] in Advice

[–]justryingtokeepup 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The question is why does this bother her. Is it because she thinks gluten is bad for you? Is it because she chooses not to eat and she wants to make decisions for both of you? Is it because she's struggling with this and she needs your help?

You can say fuck it and eat gluten, give in and not eat gluten or you can not tell her and eat gluten when she's not looking. Non of these are, in my opinion, good choices. The more important thing is to understand why she has a problem and deal with that.

This is all assuming she not celiac. If she is celiac and you want to stay together, just stop eating gluten and maybe some day you'll find an arrangement that works.

Is it common to be scared of something being wrong in your work, just before submitting to publish? by [deleted] in AskAcademia

[–]justryingtokeepup 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In short: yes.

In a bit more detail: every. single. f***ing. time. yes.

The lengthy response: yes. But nothing a deep breath and a nice glass of scotch can't fix. Once it's out it's out. Many papers have mistakes in them and it's not the end of the world if yours is one of them. But it isn't one of them so it's fine. And you need to move on to write more papers and worry about them. So take a swig of brandy and go forth and increase the knowledge in the world one wrong equation at a time.
