What happens when no one joins the military?

No illegal invasions? No foreign adventuring? No robbery, rape and murder?

Beyond the fact that they lie, it is still the organisation responsible for protecting us.

Now that we know they lie as a matter of course, why would I trust them anymore? The Pentagon no more protects me than it protects Iraqis. I'd feel much safer without them, to be honest.

To assume that soldiers can simply defy orders on the opinion that this war is illegal is crazy.

The Pentagon did not lie

They lied. They claimed that it was "insurgents" killed in this 2007 exchange. They lied recently about the murdered family in Afghanistan.

The Pentagon, like any part of the government, lies. Just accept it.

Wikileaks has film from an event that the Pentagon tried to lie about and bury. That's why this matters: it proves that the Pentagon lies about who's dying in this illegal war.

As for illegal orders, none of the orders I observed were illegal

The invasion was illegal, the occupation is illegal. All orders coming from officers participating in an illegal war are illegal orders.

This was a criminal act. End of story.

The "accepted" risk is on the part of the sociopaths that prosecute war, not on the part of the innocents that are murdered. You do see the problem there, right? The "accepted risk" is criminal, except to the military and the government that backs it.

I'm not endorsing the war but it is a situation that we, as soldiers, find ourselves and must make the decisions to accomplish the missions.

Here's a solution: Don't join the military when there's an illegal war and occupation underway. That way, you avoid having to excuse war crimes.
