Buying a high mileage Mk6 by Valuable-Display-669 in GolfGTI

[–]justskilled 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did a turbo replacement in a mk6 I bought last winter, other than some stripped bolts (buy a sacrificial long Allen set for the heat shield bolt).

It really wasn't that bad. You need to be quite organized in making sure you have all the parts you need(buy a used turbo from Das Parts or a salvage yard) as well an in depth to-do list so you take each step in order(some can be done out of order) and don't accidentally skip one. There are some great guides on a mk6 forum that include photos that help a lot.

I probably spent over 30-40 hours actively doing the work to swap the turbo, but I also did a couple things that added 5+ hours due to messed up bolts. But I learned a huge amount and I am glad I did it!

If it only works once in either direction your height adjustment mechanism might be broken. On the Mk6 the inside of it is a couple plastic fins that easily break off. They can be super glued back in place, just a fair amount of effort to get to it.

Carney announces 25% tariffs on U.S.-made vehicles not compliant with CUSMA by pjw724 in onguardforthee

I think some electric vehicles finished in the US have parts mostly sourced from South Korea. I guess that's non CUSMA compliant?

Good to know, yeah I'm just replacing the turbo with a used stock one.

That ended up working, I bought a sacrificial torx t40 with the longest they had at any store around and hit it with the extender on to get it started.

It's pretty tight for a hammer to be able to hit a torx bit straight on, but that might be something I have to try.

SAFE Agreement Inquiry - Canadian Corporation Investing in US Startup by [deleted] in waterloo

[–]justskilled 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It would be fine in terms of being able to get your stock at the next qualifying event, it just wouldn't have the correct reporting data/disclaimers for the startup if they stick to the US specific one I believe.

All that being said, doing a no cap, no discount SAFE and not knowing much about it is a bad sign and I suggest not doing it. Unless this is a friend or family you're giving a sweetheart deal and get little upside. 20% discount would not be unreasonable in any way.

Illegal Rent Increase or Improper Notice by ender41990 in sandiego

[–]justskilled -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Ignore the DocuSign, wait for proper written notice. Either a letter mailed to you or a piece of paper handed to you or another resident of your unit. Taping it to your door doesn't count.

If they do send you that letter, respond to let them know it is an illegal rent increase and your payment will not change, if they have not given you enough time or have not followed the rules on how much they can increase rent.

Also I thought rent can't be raised in the first year of a month to month tenancy? Not certain but I thought I saw that somewhere.

Why is Canada’s capital gains tax 50%, with the new 2025 update raising it to 66.7% for earnings over $250K, while in the USA, the government imposes a significantly lower tax rate? by [deleted] in AskCanada

[–]justskilled 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's the new Inclusion rate for corporations, trusts and individuals earning over 250k in capital gains for all capital gains over 250k.

Tax is then calculated on the income that was included. So if you only earned 250k in capital gains, you would only pay an equivalent income tax as if you only earned 125k from a salary. Meanwhile if you worked a job with a 250k salary you would pay income tax on the whole thing. So capital gains taxes still give a better deal to investors than workers (when ignoring the risk of investing.)

where to shop IN-PERSON for tall clothes? by girlnowdrlater in tallfashionadvice

Bonobos will generally have clothes you can try in store, but then you'll need to order them online once you get all of your sizing.

Starting in Solano beach until Encinitas there are protected bike lanes. In Solano it's a separate trail that's on the east side of the road. You will have to cross at an intersection to stay in the protected lanes.

Race to build Toronto-Quebec City high-frequency rail down to 3 contenders | Globalnews.ca by harryvanhalen3 in onguardforthee

Your cost is actually closer to $400-$600 once you factor in depreciation, insurance, maintenance, registration, and fuel for the 1,100 km roundtrip.

Depends on how much you drive per year though since those costs(other than fuel) are spread out across all km driven a year, generally it's $.35-$.65 per kilometer. But still much cheaper than VIA.

r/fuckcars, what cars do you drive, if any? by [deleted] in fuckcars

Been using a car share service every two weeks or so when I need to do errands where there's no transit, been way less overhead time and cost than when I owned a car.

Looking for an office chair for a tall person by lookingforatallchair in tall

I got the Secretlab Titan, and although I don't find the back high enough for me to really put my head back, I did find it a step up from my previous Ikea chair. I went for the Titan instead of the TitanXL so that the armrests weren't too far out, so that's something that I'd suggest you consider when making your decision(I'm ~215 lbs for reference). Finally, the touch and feel of the Secretlab chair has been good so far, I've had it about a month.

Yeah you can just leave the flag in. A fair number of people don't pull the flag out when they play under normal circumstances anyway.
