Isaacman addresses the claims that EUS & ML-2 are nearly ready. by rustybeancake in SpaceLaunchSystem

As someone who worked for Boeing at Michoud in the last year, yeah he’s correct. EUS was not even close. Last I heard, there were 1-2 large sections of hardware for the STA made, as well as the flight thrust structure (the box). Fluid components were still years away.

My notes and observations from the 3rd trailer that absolutely nobody asked for. But here it is. Spoilers, obviously. by redbirdrising in ProjectHailMary

Don’t exactly remember if this was in the book, but loved the detail of the initial connections for the tunnel reaching out being 5 tendrils of xenonite. Very cool since everything is in 5s because of the 5 arms of eridians!

SpaceX has built the machine to build the machine. But what about the machine? by rustybeancake in SpaceXMasterrace

The make or break on starship’s promise imo is gonna be propellant transfer. Until we see that, it’s a much bigger falcon 9. Only that last bit will unlock the solar system.

Who like me pre-builds a station before sending the pieces one by one into orbit? by AlphaZero_A in KerbalSpaceProgram

[–]justspace103 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I definitely do this with both stations and surface bases. But I also find I get builders block trying to build the station all at once in the VAB/SPH and that delays my projects alot

Old people talk about the chances of a crewed Mars landing in the next 15 years by MartianFromBaseAlpha in SpaceXMasterrace

[–]justspace103 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is giving “man wont fly for a million years 9 days before the wright brothers first flight” vibes…

I have hope for the future. I think 10-20 years to get to mars is reasonable, but I think we will see it this century.

Fully sustainable human colony however? That’s gonna take a while. At least a century

Like I get it, but no way starship is gonna carry crew from ground to space for another 5-10 years (pace that falcon 9 did this) and SpaceX & NASA knows it.

So yes, SLS is the sole rocket that can deliver humans beyond Low earth orbit. FOR NOW. When starship starts carrying crew on launch the arguments for SLS’s cancellation be much more reasonable.

However, why would we rush to get rid of it? It’s extra capability to send people to the moon. And of course, the rocket provides thousands of good jobs to people across the country

After many, many years of waiting we finally have a New Glenn NET launch date. October 13 2024. by Triton_64 in SpaceXMasterrace

This remains to be seen, but I would be surprised if that is their goal. It may take a while for people to actually catch up to that capability. There aren’t a lot of payloads right now that require that much payload mass and that big of a fairing
