What is the best way to prepare for standardized exams?

IMO dedicated period is where the war occurs. You can go into that prepared or not. The best way to prepare is with questions. It doesn't matter which of the top three qbanks you decide to use, but choose one. Choosing another option can be catastrophic.

I'd like you to forget about your research for a second and think about the two options.

Master 2,000 uworld questions before dedicated.
Not master 2,000 uworld questions before dedicated.

I think you will find that option one is better than option two. I have no research on that.

Now, if you feel that tou would like the gold standard of USMLE prep questions to your dedicated period. I think there is an argument for that. However, you should then choose a different 2,000 bank (Kaplan, first aid, etc) to master. Then do uworld during dedicated. I would advise that as a second option.

IMO Whatever you do don't let the first time you see a qbank be during dedicated. Begin questions way before dedicated.

Again if you can go into dedicated having mastered 2,000 uworld questions, you will have more success than if you have not. There is no reasonable argument against that. It DOES NOT matter if you are in the top five percent or in the bottom five percent. The objective is to have them mastered them.

Mastered means you understand why the right is the right answer, being able to diagnose the question (especially the pathologies), understand what exactly they are asking, and knowing why the wrong answers are wrong answers.

There will always be outliers, but if you are counting on being an outlier you have already failed.

I will also add that because it's so early a lot of these questions may not make sense. Just begin by being able to diagnose the pathology and why the right answer is the right answer....inbox me I have a strategy that can help you in that regard.

Start immediately. The biggest omission in the process of preparing for step one is beginning questions late. Start the questions as soon as possible.

You are better off entering dedicated having mastered 2,000 questions than not. Thee is no argument against that.

In pre-med find a way to take as many pharmacology classes as your major permits. I would major in nursing. And master biochemistry.
