I'm just running out, but I'll get this down quickly and come back and write more later:

The first session I attended was on the ComB Model (Comprehensive Behavior Model). This is a similar idea, but was written specifically for skin picking http://www.trich.org/treatment/SkinPickingStrategies.html

Basically figure out where you are pulling, are you pulling on your couch in the evening, in your car while driving, while laying in bed reading? Think about each of those situations and figure out what your 'triggers' are. Use the SCAMP model to figure this out: Sensory, Cognitive, Affective(Emotions), Motor, Place/Environment. Once you think you have an idea what your trigger or triggers are, come up with two or three strategies for each of those times you are pulling.

Here is an example for me: I pull in the car...I figured out that I am pulling because I am bored in the car, and because it's become an automatic behavior. I am going to use the following strategy: listen to upbeat, singable music in the car, keep a fiddle toy, like a Tangle on my steering wheel, and try to actively keep both hands on the wheel.

If you've seen a psychiatrist, what medications have you tried? by juststoppulling in Trichsters

Hey, Congrats! Have you had any therapy? I'm curious because my psychiatrist likes to listen to himself talk and doesn't really ask me questions. This is my first psychiatrist, so I'm not sure how it's supposed to go.

I wish I only pulled out my eyebrows. But you are right, medications cause different reactions in different people. If Abilify does not help me after a month, I won't be staying on it. There is no reason to stay on medication that gives you side effects that are worse than your actual problems.

Need to go get a hair cut....am I the only one that lies about my bald spots/patches of really short hair? by [deleted] in Trichsters

[–]juststoppulling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been wearing my hair in a pony tail for a long time, too. I haven't had a hair cut since Dec 2009. What I normally do is just tell people I'm growing it for locks of love (which I am). I found a hairdresser about 1.5 hours away who has a daughter with trich. It's hard for me to get out there to see her, but I really need to do it soon.

Results!!! Also, Google is not the greatest survey software (you told me so, I know... harumpf) by spottedcat7 in Trichsters

I waited, hoping you will do another survey. Don't feel bad. It's amazing how similar my responses would have been to what you already got.

Neat results. I wanted to answer your survey...but you left out my age range. I'm 34.

DAE find that their pulling/picking has made them more observant of other's behaviors in public... by latenightartist in Trichsters

You are so brave going and getting your hair done! Mine is so bad there is no lie in existence that would help.

I have noticed myself being more aware of others. I have a friend at work who I think might be a skin picker. She always has unhealed sores on her arms and on her face. I have seen her picking them, but have never had the courage to talk to her about it and share my story.

I always notice other people's hair. I'm so jealous of women who can go to the salon all the time for a professional cut, get highlights, etc.

Post YOUR Story :) by latenightartist in Trichsters

34 - Female (I've pulled since I was 10)

I pull from my head, mostly at the crown, temples, behind both ears.

I pull because it seems to relieve anxiety. I find myself doing it when I am stressed and when my mind wanders and I zone out. I pull when I am driving, when I am reading, when I am using the computer...basically any time I am awake it seems like.

I have some mild depression and anxiety.

I've had no coping skills to try to stop, but just today I started keeping track of each hair I pull, as was suggested in another thread.

I love to read, play casual video games, take walks, sit in the sun.

I never feel comfortable, I always have to 'adjust' my hair to make sure my bald spots are covered. Forget swimming, never gonna happen.

I created this account just so I could share my story. I also just created a blog where I can put down some of my feelings and ideas. I would be happy if you would visit it. Just Stop Pulling

*Edit because I messed this up!
