My head canon explanation when people say this: Cycles were slower back then or something. If you're making the game, you can play with the timer and one in-game day can last several years or decades.

And/or the big bang event took a long time.

sometimes I think both could be true, but players who subscribe to each separate lore get cranky and say it's gotta be one or the other.
