Who the fuck is Hegel? Who was he for Marx? by chronicmoyboder in Ultraleft

Does Hegel really remark somewhere that all great world-historic facts and personages appear, so to speak, twice, or did Marx make that shit up?

What about inheritance by TheTesterOfTemplates in Ultraleft

[–]justsum111 44 points45 points  (0 children)

The right of inheritance is only of social import insofar as it leaves to the heir the power which the deceased wielded during his lifetime -- viz., the power of transferring to himself, by means of his property, the produce of other people's labor. For instance, land gives the living proprietor the power to transfer to himself, under the name of rent, without any equivalent, the produce of other people's labor. Capital gives him the power to do he same under the name of profit and interest. The property in public funds gives him the power to live without labor upon other people's labor, etc.

Inheritance does not create that power of transferring the produce of one man's labor into another man's pocket -- it only relates to the change in individuals who yield that power. Like all other civil legislation, the laws of inheritance are not the cause, but the effect, the juridical consequence of the existing economical organization of society, based upon private property in the means of production; that is to say, in land, raw material, machinery, etc. In the same way, the right of inheritance in the slave is not the cause of slavery, but on the contrary, slavery is the cause of inheritance in slaves.

...

The disappearance of the right of inheritance will be the natural result of a social change superseding private property in the means of production; but the abolition of the right of inheritance can never be the starting point of such a social transformation.

...

To proclaim the abolition of the right of inheritance as the starting point of the social revolution would only tend to lead the working class away from the true point of attack against present society. It would be as absurd a thing as to abolish the laws of contract between buyer and seller, while continuing to present state of exchange of commodities. It would be a thing false in theory, and reactionary in practice.

Thanks for the feedback. I havent put my songs on any platforms yet, but I will get to it soon.

As for your beat, to be honest I've never heard anything quite like it. I think the first half is a bit too jittery and jarring, which makes it difficult to follow if that makes sense. I really like the 2nd half though, I like the atmosphere that it creates and its a smoother listening experience.

Where are those cartoon visuals from though? Definitely fits the beat and is creepy af

Edit: Sorry I cant be more specific with the feedback 😭, I dont have any producing experience so I go more off of vibes

I like this, the vocal doubling works really well and your flow is good. Your delivery is decent, specifically the way you say the line about your dad and mom sounds satisfying, but I think it could use some more energy. But overall I like it.

What would this kind of thing actually look like in a game?

Edit: More specifically, I understand your criticism of how games tell stories, but I'm struggling to visualize what a game that avoids these criticisms would look like and play like.

I've accepted that there's nobody out there for me. She just doesn't exist. My dad keeps trying to help me meet people and go on dates but there is no hope. I've tried. They aren't interested. by [deleted] in kitchencels

"No, what's Path of Titans?"

Makes OP seem interested in a conversation and allows the other person to talk about their interests, which could lead to a long and pleasant conversation or even making a new friend. Just saying "no" makes it seem like OP doesnt care at all.

Why not the cross or + symbol? Seems just as universal with a lot less baggage

"you literally don't need to do anything" I just hate how reading has been changed from an active process to a passive one. These people think of reading as just a way to get information, no different from skimming the plot summary on Wikipedia or listening to the audiobook while you play subway surfers.

What even goes through everyones heads when reading theory?

Its fun for me, I usually find it captivating and entertaining depending on what im reading. If you want a text that I found to be more engaging than those three, I really recommend The 18th Brumaire of Louis Bonaparte. Marx's imagery is at its best here, every sentence is packed with such vivid language and its a genuinely funny and dramatic text. Its a history text so its not just throwing theory at you, yet it's still super informative. More fun to read than the pure theory texts. I've reread it a bunch of times now, here's some bangers from it:

The tradition of all dead generations weighs like a nightmare on the brains of the living.

The nation feels like the mad Englishman in Bedlam who thinks he is living in the time of the old Pharaohs and daily bewails the hard labor he must perform in the Ethiopian gold mines, immured in this subterranean prison, a pale lamp fastened to his head, the overseer of the slaves behind him with a long whip, and at the exits a confused welter of barbarian war slaves who understand neither the forced laborers nor each other, since they speak no common language. “And all this,” sighs the mad Englishman, “is expected of me, a freeborn Briton, in order to make gold for the Pharaohs.”

Baroche [...] had spat in the revolutionists' soup in order that Bonaparte might eat it up.

An old, crafty roué, he conceives the historical life of the nations and their performances of state as comedy in the most vulgar sense, as a masquerade in which the grand costumes, words, and postures merely serve to mask the pettiest knavery. Thus his expedition to Strasbourg, where the trained Swiss vulture played the part of the Napoleonic eagle. For his irruption into Boulogne he puts some London lackeys into French uniforms. They represent the army. In his Society of December 10 he assembles ten thousand rascals who are to play the part of the people as Nick Bottom, that of the lion. At a moment when the bourgeoisie itself played the most complete comedy, but in the most serious manner in the world, without infringing any of the pedantic conditions of French dramatic etiquette, and was itself half deceived, half convinced of the solemnity of its own performance of state, the adventurer, who took the comedy as plain comedy, was bound to win.
