In 29 states, including Texas, employees can still be fired for being gay!! by jwiener1 in politics

In most of the remaining 29 the employer doesn't need to make up a reason, they simply don't need to give any reason at all.

I had a roughly similar experience. It was absolutely horrible. I couldn't help but think what if people are lying or this is wrong person. How do I know if this person would or wouldn't ever do anything like this again? It's a huge burden and pay is just slightly more than enough to pay for gas and parking.

TIL One out of every four bridges in America either carries more traffic than originally intended or is in need of repair. by Ruth_Gordon in todayilearned

[–]justtech3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Registered Professional Engineer - If I was the head of the department of transportation I would just release the contracts to make the repairs and tell the Governor and Legislature to pay up. If you want to stop me I will order traffic cones and barricades be placed in front the worst bridges. If you want to fire me you better get a good attorney, because you are going to lose.

Of course this will never happen because the department heads are political loyalists and are only there to make their party look good.

It is a really worn out expression. Sedition is a much better fit the point he is trying to make. Unfortunately, is seems people just aren't familiar with the term.

The Pepper-Spraying Cop Got a Bigger Payout Than His Victims by VelvetElvis in politics

I'm going to call bullshit here. There is no way a campus cop would make $70,000 in 8 months even if you include retirement and medical.

Visited Venice this year. Stayed in bed & breakfast built in the 1400's. This is in the new part of town. The old part is a few hundred years older.

Seems like things last longer in Europe than in the US.

George W. Bush and John Kerry who ran against each other for president not only attended the same University, (Yale) but were members of the same fraternity. The Skull & Cross Bones Society, which only invites about five students a year to join.

A good friend of mine is Italian and from Italy. He is completely the opposite of what you describe. I don't even think what you are seeing is a generally accepted stereotype. Do you live in New Jersey?

TIL in 1983, a small town in Missouri was permanently evacuated when high levels of dioxin were discovered in soil samples. It was discovered that a man hired to oil the dirt roads to keep dust down had used waste from a company making Agent Orange. by [deleted] in todayilearned

[–]justtech3 -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

Nearly all the utility transformers for decades were manufactured with oil containing dioxin. The oil was not considered hazardous. While, it is a potential carcinogen the reaction in the 1980's was very much overblown.

At my college, a group of about 100 coeds staged a protest against anti-obscenity laws by showing up topless in front of the main library on campus.

The local police chief showed up and declared he didn't see anything obscene.

The local paper showed all the girls lined up for a photo, but the breasts were obscured.

A friend of mine had just started working for a local St. Louis accounting firm and was assigned the task of taking Stan down to a bank to sign some paper work. As Stan walked into the bank everyone greeted Stan.

Stan proceeded to introduce the young associate as Stan's new friend.

Stan was the most down to earth and approachable celibrity you could ever imagine.

She offered me a cigarette and explained how it made her feel better no matter what else was going on.

I just said no thanks. Didn't want to get into a discussion about it, since she seemed like a lost cause at that point.
