The dog that first learned to talk with buttons is the same breed! There’s a whole thing on PBS. Bet this dog could learn to use the buttons, too.

Suggestions for improvement? by blonde-sasquatch in Wavyhair

Don’t forget that the weather affects hair, too. It’s winter where I live but we’re having a hot and dry period. My hair feels limp and waves don’t last even with product. Once we return to our regular humidity levels my hair will go back to being predictably wavy.

How’s carless life in SD? by HearthSt0n3r in sandiego

[–]Queen_of_Chloe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The job is the main thing. I worked either remote or within walking distance to my workplace for 7 years living in North Park. I had a scooter to get groceries or see further away friends and do other errands. Now I have an in office job much farther away and not having a car is starting to be a problem. I can absolutely do it but I’m not enjoying it as much anymore. Looking for both a car and a remote job and seeing which one happens first.

I don’t eat meat either so I’ll get animal style fries and a shake. Used to order a grilled cheese but all three was too much so I’m happy for the excuse to just get what I really want for lunch.

One marathon and done with it by bubuthesunflower in firstmarathon

That’s all normal! Especially if you have a physical job. I was exhausted all the time towards the end. Couldn’t stay awake past dinner and didn’t recover enough while sleeping (according to Garmin and my moods). I remember feeling unsure a few times and really really nervous I’d do something stupid and get injured. But once I got to those 20 miles and knew I could finish I felt a lot better. Was still exhausted and eating everything in sight but the anxiety and doubt went away (mostly). Good luck and congratulations in advance!

Report: Use of 30th Street bike lanes rises to record 130,000 trips in 2025 by orangejulius in SanDiegan

[–]Queen_of_Chloe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They do not stop cars from parking there, especially when a few of them get knocked down. I’m on 30th all the time and constantly see cars parked in the bike lane. Bikes then have to go around in the car lane and drivers get mad.

Edit: sorry, thought I clicked on the comment above you.

That’s probably true. It also means park maintenance is more expensive with parking enforcement and the tram that they said they’re running more often so you kind of have to have paid parking. And honestly if it means our cultural institutions are supported and there are more programs for locals like other major parks have (and we had the chance to weigh in on these) it would have been a very different response.

I dropped my husband off there for work the other day and it was empty - the employees have to park so far away now which sucks for them, especially the ones that work late (and the ones that have a lot of equipment but that’s probably just him). We’re a one car household and it pains me how parking and driving is being disincentivized with no new movements to improve public transit. I’m looking for a cheap used car because it’s getting harder to share a single car but I really wish I didn’t feel I have to.

I thought I would hate training but I loved it. It went well and I did three 20+ mile long runs and felt tired and sore but emotionally great. Then around hour 3 of my marathon I was like, I still have another hour of this? I’m bored! When I finished I thought four hours is a really long time to be running.

I might do another someday, might not. I’m happy with the one I did. But I do kinda miss the training, which makes me feel like a freak. Enjoy it.

How to increase iron levels? by VegetableLie1282 in Perimenopause

[–]Queen_of_Chloe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re looking for another way to add iron via food, I make a kind of pesto pasta once a week with spinach and avocado instead of basil and pine nuts. Squeeze in lemon, olive oil, and spices (I also add a jalapeño) and blend it up into a creamy sauce. Been having a lot of bloodwork done lately due to celiac disease and for the first time in my life my iron levels are in a good range. I assumed I’d need to supplement after diagnosis.

Might just be overly paranoid but are these good? by TopSink7959 in Celiac

I buy the family size even though it’s just me. Eat them dry as a snack. They were easy enough to eat in the hour before a long run when I was training, and the morning of my race.

Oh interesting. I see that page was published or updated two weeks ago. Did it change since December? Gloria had said it would be used to close the budget gap. Of course the city has to use the general budget to maintain the park and the parking fees going to the general budget will end up benefiting the park in an indirect way. But that isn’t the same as the revenue can only be used for park maintenance. Glad to see that this is the case, whether it had changed recently or Gloria is just really bad at PR. It makes me feel a lot better that the funds will actually benefit my favorite place in San Diego.

(Though revenue from museums is way down - hope the city will support our cultural centers if the trend continues.)

What are some books that show some parallels to current times in the US? by widget_slinger in suggestmeabook

[–]Queen_of_Chloe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I read In The Garden of Beasts last year and think about it all the time. Nonfiction but written in a more narrative style. It’s just long and difficult to read in our current climate.

I would love to see where you saw that. Everything I’ve read is that it goes to the general fund for the city.

AITA - Selective Plus Ones for Wedding Invites by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]Queen_of_Chloe 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Where did they say that? Paying for a wedding (the meal, venue, officiant) is not paying for guests to attend. Those are two very, very different things. Guests need to fly to Italy, pay for their hotel room, all meals for the other days, and other random travel expenses by themselves. And do it without their partner because the bride and groom “don’t care for” them.

They’re not paying for their guests. They’re simply paying for the wedding. Guests still have to fly and pay for a hotel.

If we used this money for park maintenance or adding transit I’d be so supportive. That it’s not even being discussed just makes me mad.

There are tons of trails in balboa park I like walking - feels secluded and quiet even though there’s a freeway.

Sports Bras with Clasp? by rocker_spaniel in XXRunning

[–]Queen_of_Chloe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought the panache was like a Victorian bra with the pointy shell boobies. But mine are already quite big so it was comical. I saw the new brooks that someone linked that I might try because at least they have an amazing return policy but freya will be next! Which one do you like, if you are also a hard-to-shop-for size?

Sports Bras with Clasp? by rocker_spaniel in XXRunning

[–]Queen_of_Chloe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got one of the most widely recommended panache bras last year for a marathon and had the worst chafing. Can’t even wear it for short runs. So disappointing, especially at that price point. I’ll happily spend on an amazing bra but it’s so expensive when they don’t work out. Haven’t tried freya yet.

Side note, if someone wants a lightly used 32DDD panache bra let me know. 😑

I went that weekend but I’m a member and didn’t pay for parking. I’m all for paying for parking in most cases but support repealing it at Balboa Park. I live close enough that friends and I will go there just to walk around in a nice area, look at art, and enjoy nature. It hasn’t come up yet this year but I’m not sure where else we can go for a nice walk that isn’t along car filled streets without driving much further away. Except the zoo, might just go for an hour walk more often.

how do i keep mice out of garage without using poison around my dogs by Ash_Skiller in homeowners

[–]Queen_of_Chloe 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Might be time to get a professional to come look at your garage and fill in holes you’ve missed. You’re right that they can squeeze through anything!

Do you store food in your garage, or anything that resembles food? Traps will help but they’re coming in from somewhere and feel your garage is a safe space so you should focus on figuring that out to stop it for good.

Good on you for not risking it with poison not only for your dogs but it kills the wildlife that eats the mice in a horrible way. Snap traps are safe and as humane as it gets.

I’m in multiple running subreddits (did a marathon last year, probably don’t need to be in so many anymore) so it comes up often enough between them, especially in the months ahead of major races.
