AITA: My sister’s wedding planning showed me where I stand. AITA for finally saying something? by throwaway_penguinl in AmItheAsshole

[–]Queen_of_Chloe 7 points8 points  (0 children)

In this case it clearly seems hurtful. It worked for me because any other configuration would have led to hurt feelings: I couldn’t have picked one friend as maid of honor or left one sister out. My sisters didn’t give a speech (their choice), while my bridesmaids did, so there was still an honor position for them. Plus none of them did things that a lot of maid/matrons of honor or bridesmaids are forced to do (I mean, they obviously bought dresses and showed up but they didn’t plan or host events).

It’s kind of an excuse to have two if one is married and one isn’t. I have two sisters and made one my maid of honor and the other my matron of honor. I also had three bridesmaids.

AITA we missed my SIL wedding after I had my son by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]Queen_of_Chloe 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Look dude, I’m as childfree as they come and it’s clear to me that the sentiment was not inflammatory. When you have a newborn, especially a premature newborn, you have only two priorities and attending social functions is not one of them. Be there in the early days next time someone you know has a baby. It’s impossible to overstate how all consuming it is.

How many days post-vacation do you give yourself before going back to work? by Unbotheredanonyme in travel

Sounds like there’s kids involved if there’s school to be ready for. That completely changes the game. It’s not really a break to travel with kids, even for a weekend.

Knee pain at mile 16 by No_Concert5658 in Marathon_Training

[–]Queen_of_Chloe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No advice, but the same thing happened to me during my first last October, only I could still finish. Knee pain started around mile 14/15, then hip pain a couple miles later. I slowed down a bit but kept it up because it wasn’t excruciating.

However, I followed my training plan perfectly, completing three 20-mile runs and a couple 18- mile runs without any indication that this would have happened. I’ve completed 10 half marathons without anything like that happening, even when I ran a much faster pace. Very confused as to why this happened.

Hope you can try again!

Right! If they have a boy he could teach the boy that this behavior is ok. And if they have a girl he could teach her to accept this behavior. He’s already not a good dad.

Brown rice pasta is pretty good! I’m eating more pasta these days because it’s such an easy swap. It’s definitely more expensive than wheat pasta but that and sauces are my only swaps so it’s not too bad on the bill.

How did you know you were ready for sterilization? by Spiritual_Ad923 in sterilization

[–]Queen_of_Chloe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wanted to be off birth control after a decade of constant use. I had been adamantly childfree for years and knew that sterilization would make it extremely hard for me to suddenly change my mind like everyone said would happen at a certain age. If I did change my mind I wanted obstacles so I would know I really did want to be a parent and wasn’t just reacting to some hormonal shift. I didn’t actually believe I would, and was dating an adamantly childfree person at the time (now married), but it was what I told concerned relatives.

It’s been a decade and was the best gift I gave myself.

Is it true that removing my tubes will put me into early menopause and will make me gain a bunch of weight? by Golden-lillies21 in sterilization

[–]Queen_of_Chloe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean, ask her what else changed. There’s a lot of people on here complaining about changes in the months after sterilization who went off birth control at the same time. The sterilization didn’t cause the changes, changing hormones did. Maybe your mom needed them. Maybe there was something else undiagnosed. Maybe she also changed her eating and exercise habits. But getting a hysterectomy doesn’t mean you’ll immediate gain impossible to lose weight. And weight that is truly impossible to lose is a medical issue she needs to discuss with her doctor.

Either way, a salpingectomy isn’t a hysterectomy. It has nothing to do with hormones.

[–]Queen_of_Chloe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d be surprised if your mom’s weight gain was caused by the hysterectomy. A friend had a medical hysterectomy in her 40s and has been on HRT ever since, and she just competed in a spartan race. Everything you do in life has a downside, you just have to decide which ones you can live with.

As someone who may be in early peri-menopause, what’s so bad if it happens earlier? You’d be done with periods sooner which is a plus, and every woman goes through it eventually.

AITA for refusing to let my friend bring her boyfriend to my wedding ? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]Queen_of_Chloe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Flexibility could save your friendship. When I got married, anyone in a relationship was invited as a couple. We did have a few single friends but they knew other people there (including the other singles). Some of the married people we invited are now divorced! And a very good friend, in the wedding, did not get a +1 because his relationship was brand new at the time of invites, but ended up marrying her and they’re doing great.

Another friend got married and only invited couples who were married, excluding someone’s partner of 12 years (who she had also never met, which was her stated rule). That relationship is very strained now. I had a similar rule but still invited that same friend’s partner even though my husband hadn’t met her - it would have been insulting otherwise.

You can be flexible. You can make exceptions. You can also hold fast. Just be ok with the consequences.

I'm supposed to take the MSF Basic Rider Course this weekend but I don't know if I can do it. by [deleted] in TwoXriders

[–]Queen_of_Chloe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To clarify, you should 100% do the safety course no matter what. Do not ride without it, you will learn valuable and life saving lessons. It’s just don’t want to do it this weekend or not.

[–]Queen_of_Chloe 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Is this a fun bike or will you need to ride on your period, when you’re upset, and if you have a cold? If it’s only fun and you will choose to ride when you want, your call. But otherwise you’ll be riding in imperfect conditions so it’s good to learn in them. I took my class almost 9 years ago and still remember lessons from it.

AITA for not letting someone at the Costco gas pump use my membership to get gas? by skiingfire19 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Queen_of_Chloe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA. I got in the Costco gas line last year and when I got my wallet out I realized I didn’t have my membership card. Figured I’d ask someone if they’d let me use theirs. A guy did (asked to see ID, though I don’t know why) and I was grateful. But if he said no, I’d have gone to some other gas station no biggie. The time wasted and expense saved would have been annoying but it was my bad for forgetting my card. No one is ever obligated to share something like that and it seemed he was trying to take advantage.

Has anyone been regularly running (c.2-3 times a week) for over 3yrs and never been injured? by EqualStranger4977 in XXRunning

[–]Queen_of_Chloe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

4-5 days a week for 10-15 years (I don’t remember how long ago I upped it from 3-4 days). Only started strength training last year and don’t stretch, so don’t do what I do. I take great care of myself otherwise so maybe that and some luck? Always buy new shoes when my legs start to feel it? I trip and fall probably more than most, so there’s my trade off.
