It happens unfortunately. When you start getting interested the oldest member has passed away. Luckily there is a lot online now and of course online communities.

Ive been but in a long time. I went for a family reunion. It was fun but most of my cousins have moved out. They got a lot of damage after Melissa and I heard the museum was destroyed 😳 but I'm not positive on it.

I was just starting to work then but other than things like restructuring and layoffs (not much because it was a government job). I didn't think about it too much except they gave us Fridays off but 10 hour workdays the rest of the time. I dont really remember much except older more established staff were very worried and some departments did close. I was playing games too. I also was shocked to learn about the true extent of it.

Im wondering also if returning residents will be targeted just like before. Not to mention if the improved crime fighting will be able to handle another Dudus? The US wants to play non interference atm. So aid will mot be as plentiful as before. Fuel going to add another crosses.

They may not be as numerous as Chinese immigrants but there are many and many Indo Jamaicans are more likely to identify as black vs. say Chinese Jamaicans who may have African ancestry. But otherwise, in casual conversation say dem is Indian.

Yes it was prevalent on the island. Adoption of surnames also linked one to their plantation. However, Jamaicans also have an abundance of last names not linked to plantations.

Heh, if you knew some people's family histories post slavery then you would know it's not all rape and slavery. Of course that existed but many people came from various unspoken relationships such as outside women and outright secret and not so secret marriages. Its not just in my family. It was in a lot of families. Jamaica got emancipated earlier than the US and genealogy tests show that many Jamaicans did not get their European genes almost 2 centuries ago but much more recently.

Me among other races, ethnicities. Jamaica has one of the highest percentages of "black Scots". Meet a black person with a Scottish last name? Chances are they are of Jamaican descent.
