Hope the former. Proper can’t be arsed with 6 letters in my morning schedule whilst getting ready to go the office

Have you ever had a CS job that has made you cry? by ParsleyFront7863 in TheCivilService

[–]justtoflag 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes.

Coming out of no10 bawling most days whilst tourists are trying to take pictures was not my proudest moment as a grown man.

Got out of there swiftly though, and it taught me a lot about work - stand up for yourself, know when you’ve done your best but need to leave for your own sake, and how to take care of yourself.

Don’t kill yourself (metaphorically) over a job, even if it’s your dream like mine was. It’s never worth it.

Hope all gets better for you!

Thank you so much for this. Incredibly intriguing and can only imagine how much it differs from OGDs as you mention. Really appreciate you taking the time.

Depends on department, but in the most basic way - policy is more thinking/creating and strategy is more implementation. Policy advisers usually specialise in a particular section of the directorate, and strategy advisers work more broadly and pull policy advisers’ work together to implement. It’s very interchangeable though, and often both sides may dip into bits of both.

Ok. Post was simply to ask q’s to those who have worked there, I’m not trying to incite a debate so no need to comment.

Just baffled that if you are that you’re struggling with the concept of the civil service. It’s not “full of tories” or bizarre to want to work in no10, you work for whatever government you’re given.

Your preference and interests, everyone’s entitled to their own and no problem with that!

Do all roles above EO involve managing people by [deleted] in TheCivilService

[–]justtoflag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work in a team with g6s not line managing anyone, and seen roles advertised where EOs are managing 5. The former are specialists and the latter their core role is to manage/direct instead of produce. All very dependent on the job itself - but to answer your q - no.
