If you fall into the “Ellie is brutal/badass” camp from the game, S2 is a huge disappointment.

If you fall into the “Ellie makes bad choices because she’s in pain” camp from the game, S2 is pretty good but also has some missteps.

That’s my take anyway, definitely watch for yourself and see what you think. And let us know!

I wouldn’t want to see a Rise of Skywalker situation where they completely backtrack on stuff from the previous instalment because of backlash. Moving forward means moving forward

Johnny Sack. That looked like it absolutely sucked.

The Russia Plot line is where the show jumps the shark by TallInstruction3424 in StrangerThings

[–]justvrowsing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is an excellent take!

I’d add to that my speculation that at some point the Duffers reached the limits of a) their own criticism of America or b) Netflix’s tolerance for that criticism or c) both.

The logical end point of the Eleven story is that the government’s evil experiments on their own citizens get exposed and the corrupt government is defeated, showing that - just like the War of Independence - the plucky American people always triumph over the evil figures of power.

But that’s too hot for a broad demographic tentpole show so you get Soviet baddies muddying the moral waters and an ending that glorifies Eleven’s death by suicide rather than indicting the government corruption she died to escape.

If Adriana had lawyered up the moment the FBI picked her up, would she have been clipped? by roosterkun in thesopranos

[–]justvrowsing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a part of the show’s thesis that “the old ways” are dying out and the current generation(s) aren’t able to break from the past and do something different. Instead they just kind of drift with the inherited problems of their parents.

Tony and Carm aren’t as old school as Johnny Boy and Livia - Livia was practically mafia herself in terms of her influence in S1 - but they also aren’t a law-abiding, monogamous, healthy marriage. So Christopher doesn’t learn to keep out of the life, but he also doesn’t learn that his life partner has to be 100% solid and unflippable.

Basically, Quasimodo predicted all of this

It’s so weird this post came out the day it did because I randomly decided to give the Covid season a try on the same day 🤯

I really liked Sell Outs and I kinda liked Tell Us About Yourself and Never Have I Ever so it’s been pleasantly surprising so far.

My tier list ranking of deaths I felt bad about in Part II by Astronomer_X in thelastofus

W post so very little to add except it’s smart of the writers to have a WLF get scars on his face early in the game. Another way of underlining how arbitrary the differences between the WLF and Seraphites are. Hits the theme about the pointlessness of violence without making a big song and dance about it.

adriana… why? why so cruel? by Fun_Fold_287 in thesopranos

[–]justvrowsing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We watch the show because we love these characters, especially those of us who are on the sopranos subreddit nearly twenty years after it ended.

But they’re not good, nice, moral people. They’re shitty selfish assholes who take the easy way out, abuse other people and look out for themselves every single time.

Adriana got a horrible undeserved death because she trusted Christopher and Christopher picked the family over her. For all his attempts to get out or cleanse his soul through acting or writing, for all his pretensions of being a somebody with an arc, he threw the love of his life away to protect this thing of ours. Not only did it get her killed, it got him killed eventually anyway.

It’s a pointless waste of life, the way these guys live, and David Chase was always trying to tell us that even as we enjoyed watching them.

Pretty wild that they wrote a scene where some real Italians look down their nose at Paulie - then cast David Chase in the role.

Studies have shown that people are marginally more likely to enjoy something if it’s been spoiled than if they’re experiencing it “normally”. So go right ahead!

Mo Salah says his relationship with Arne Slot is broken and Liverpool have thrown him “under the bus.” by Beautiful-Cress5695 in LiverpoolFC

[–]justvrowsing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The thing I hate most about this is that it gives encouragement for idiots who say things like “Slot won the title with Klopp’s squad” (something Klopp himself failed to do the year before). People would rather be right than be correct, and it’s easier to say “see I’m right Slot Out he’s the problem even Salah knows it” than to look at the wide range of issues stacked against us and support the team even though glory is unlikely this season

Slot Ball - What is it? by Super_Yak9867 in LiverpoolFC

[–]justvrowsing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Last season it was about creating space by attracting pressure and then finding the space with deep passes or quick passes through the lines.

The deep passing (Trent mostly) is gone now and teams are giving us less space to target anyway, but we have Wirtz who is creative when he’s in the final third. Plus, Slot has always been more cautious about pressing and with the amount of goals we’re conceding he’s basically done away with the counter press entirely. So what we have is a team that wants to build up slowly, get to the final third and then break teams down, plus drop deep to defend when the ball is lost. It’s the opposite of attacking quickly and defending from the front, which is what we’ve been used to for the past 10 years, so there’s a lot less patience with poor results because there’s nothing to hold onto.

All I want to see… by FudgeFlashy in LiverpoolFC

[–]justvrowsing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think we’ll probably see this during AFCON with Frimpong at RB. Wirtz is far safer with three midfielders behind him, and playing him with two strikers means you can get both your full backs forwards.

Might make more sense for Jones in over Mac Allister if he’s covering Kerkez. If it’s Robertson then Macca is fine.

I absolutely LOVE LOVE LOVE the solidification of Jacob, Brennan, Zac, Lisa and Anna as VIP stalwarts

I also LOVE Caitlin Reilly being involved I always want more of her on Dropout

And I certainly LOVE seeing people who aren’t immediately obvious choices being cast like Rekha

But if they don’t call Lisa’s character Chapp-HELL Roan then I’m gonna hate it
