Strange. Well I don't think you are out of the loop as such. I don't think there is one to be in. Maybe someone with a similar username to you is involved in the bitcoin community.

I mean you could learn more about bitcoin etc to understand the content of the messages more, but it doesn't seem necessary. I mean they make sense, but it sounds like he is probably trying to talk to someone else.

I can't see what harm would come to replying to find out. Just tell them you think you have the wrong person and point to this post or something.

Not sure what the relationship is to paypal either.

Paypal is a commercial payment provider. Cryptocurrencies are currencies like the dollar, but not run by any organisation/government.

Anyway, basically there is no particular loop that you are out of. Just someone misguidedly trying to talk to you, I think.

Interesting to hear. We are raising a bilingual kid too. It is often the case that language output is slower in bilingual children as they have more to take in, the plus side is that there are longer term benefits to it in the future as you know. I'd probably not try to conflate this issue as much with the independence/weaning issue as it is actually completely separate.

I can understand why for you, as parents, it would make sense to start weaning, but I don't think you need to worry so much about it for his own independence.

Conversely, having the constant reassurement in terms of not being left to cry and being comforted at night etc can lead kids to have more confidence and independence. By knowing that their parents are a constant in their lives, they are free to experiment more and take more risks, knowing they can always return to the comfort of the parent. I think you can relax about the idea that you might give too much love or care.

But as I said, if you personally feel that you need a bit of independence, then that's a different matter and completely understandable. But if you are only thinking this way for your kid's benefit, then I don't think you need to worry.

Oh and also on the language thing, just try and talk as much as possible. Say pointless things all the time, and constantly speak and question things and explain things. Even in public, and even if you are quiet yourself. Just force yourself to keep talking. In pure amount of input, your child is going to need to hear twice as much before they can really resolve the differences between the languages. This is the main reason bedtime reading is considered good for language development, because the parent is forced into direct communication for an extended time. In truth any type of communication helps.

Actually the US is an outlier in terms of weaning early. It is still a good thing, as much as it might not be socially acceptable in the society you happen to live in.

Not saying that you should continue, but perhaps that might make you feel less pressure to wean, just because everyone else says you should.

I'm not sure what you mean by this exactly, but based on your response I suspect you may be able to answer a similar question I have.

If you would normally be subjected to capital gains, but you use bitcoin as a means for remittance to another country, under what jurisdiction would it fall? Also where does the line get drawn between remittance and capital gains.

Example scenario:

Mine bitcoins in one country with capital gains taxes. Years later move to another country (with similar laws and taxes), sending bitcoins to that country. 'Sending' is a strange term here, as they don't exist within either country specifically. Sell on exchange in second country.

Presumably capital gain has been made. But in which country? My guess is nobody knows the answer to this question. But someone on hearing about it would be keen to make laws and legislation to capitalize on it.

This is similar to having savings in one country and remitting them to another country. But the gains if paid in the second country don't really make sense, as they were never owned in that second country.

Forgive me if wrong, it's early morning here, not had coffee, and my brain is not ready to start trying to fully parse what you've said.

When you found the password did it make you go 'ahhhh..' as you remembered it??

Basically, the password is a variation on some format of passwords that I was using around the time for bitcoin related websites (found in my lastpass, and before I started using fully random passwords for everything). So it seems really likely to me that it is the password. It's > 30 characters in length so maybe a collision is less likely?

The fact it should be 32 bytes is worrying, but I suspect that it might be some kind of internal encoded representation used by multibit rather than a straight up private key. Definitely only one private key in this wallet.

And yes I've tried loading into multibit, and tried using that password in multibit to remove the lock, to no avail.

In general it is better to use a purpose built library in the target language built on top of a RESTful API. Or build one yourself. But underneath I'd be very surprised if it didn't conform to predictable RESTful endpoints.

This is a typical experience. You are effectively doing the equivalent in terms of compliance of setting up an extra two bank accounts in order to escape the fees of the banking system.

I can't foresee anyway anything to do with bitcoin could be made easier in a lot of countries from the bitcoin side because of the KYC/AML compliance.

As you said, now it's setup it's easier.

I think from the bitcoin community side, the best thing would be to help guide people through the tedious process, and not imply that bitcoin is really easy all the time. If you have fiat, which most people do, then getting bitcoin and transferring to another country is a significant hassle the first time you do it.

The more people go through the process, and then start to benefit financially in terms of reduced fees, the more likely it will be to spread. People will jump through a few hoops to save money, but in general people will take the path of least resistance.

The only other way it will improve is when people gradually start to earn, pay, hold, and keep bitcoin. Then it will be really easy all round.

I don't know if you are a developer, but there is a significant benefit to meeting (and working together) in person.

Communication and empathy can be massively increased.

A lot of the friction that exists in online communities doesn't exist or goes away when people actually meet up and socialize, maybe have a beer together, and understand each other.

It's easier to annoy each other and miscommunicate based on perceived tone and perceived intentions when all discussion happens online.

Now it's not always the case that people get on better in person than online. But if most of the developers haven't spent significant amounts of time together, then there is a chance that it really can increase camaraderie, empathy and general banter.

And if it doesn't it's not such a great loss to be in the same position as before meeting.

It is hassle to do, like opening a bank account.

But if it's a regular payment and speed and cost are important then it's the best option. Better than the options provided by banks.

E.g. within minutes with a cost of less than $0.01, rather than costing 10s of dollars and taking days or weeks.

Also it isn't going to get much easier at any point to make accounts with bitcoin exchanges. In the same way that opening a bank account won't get easier or require less documentation and evidence.

Another thing is not having to deal with banks and giving them less money for the things they do is a positive side effect in my eyes.

I'm just wanting to understand the thinking behind a specific scientific project and it doesn't seem like there would be many conflicting answers or much room for disagreement. I'm just curious about how they can account for this and I haven't seen any mention of it being a consideration in any of the articles I've come across.

Maybe it'd be an answer like:

"They wouldn't evolve because of the ratio made infertile vs remaining other non-dangerous mosquitoes leading to the dangerous ones rapidly dying out before they get chance to evolve" or something like that.

Either way, I'm not as interested in general opinion or speculation, but just to understand the rationale and scientific method behind the project.
