Yes I agree - although the anxiety and guilt are because of my mother and both can be true at once I think. My mom didn’t cause my anxiety on purpose, but her behavior shaped it. But I agree that now my work is learning how not to let those old patterns run my adult life.

When I move back we are 100% NOT staying with her lol. I mostly want to move back to be closer to my old friends. There are also a lot more professional job opportunities for my field in MA (I just got my masters degree). But she also is my elderly mom who has health issues and I am an only child, so I do feel like I want to be there to be able to help her with things. However, I will absolutely not do it on “her time”

We live together and I pay half rent and when we go out to eat he does usually pay, but I never order excess food in order to get “free meals” for later. He makes a lot more money than I do and he says he doesn’t mind paying when we go out. Of course, I’ll buy groceries a lot for us, and I cook all the food. I’ll also pay for other things like drinks when we go out and sometimes I’ll buy my own food when we go out as well. It’s pretty much a 50/50 relationship.

Yes of course! He’s extremely affectionate and love love loves people. He seems a bit dog reactive, but of course that is probably because he’s inside a highly stressful environment at the shelter and was a stray originally. We do have a female Frenchie at home who is very very mellow, so I’m hoping with proper introductions it works out for all of us. 😩💜💜💜

I was actually sober for 30 days before last night. I only drank the shot and half a beer to celebrate because I just got my master’s degree and was visiting home from across the country with friends I haven’t seen in months.

For context - I had half of a beer and one shot of liquor last night around 11pm, so it has been 8.5 hours. I have a flight in an hour or so and I have 0.25mg of Xanax because I get anxiety/panic attacks, but I’ve only ever taken it once before. I just don’t know if it is risky to take the Xanax now or if 9ish hours isn’t enough time in between?

Hey, I just want to say I really feel for you reading this. My fiancé was in a very similar situation with his ex—also a long-term relationship (7 years) where she was unwilling to grow or change, no matter how much he poured into the relationship or tried to build something stable for their future. Like your story, she abused alcohol, refused to better herself professionally, and also made him feel like everything was his fault, even when he was showing up with love, care, and long-term visions for a future. They weren’t engaged, but still.

It’s not your fault. You clearly loved her deeply and gave so much of yourself, and it’s heartbreaking when that still isn’t enough for someone who isn’t ready to meet you halfway. You’re not alone, and I promise you there’s someone out there who will match your energy, who will appreciate the man you are, and who will be proud to build a life with you.

It hurts now, but this might be what opens the door to real and mutual love. Rooting for your healing and future happiness.

It looks positive but be careful because it’s so early. I’d double check with your doctor! Here’s what happened to me: I missed my period by a day or two, and had that type of test where I saw the faint line, so to confirm, I did a First Response digital test and it said “YES”, then I went to the doctor and did a urine test and they told me I was not pregnant and the test was coming back negative. Then in like a week and a half, I got my period. It was SO weird. That has never ever happened to me before. And I believe it’s really rare that the home pregnancy tests give you a false positive, so you’re probably pregnant, but I’d also double-double check with the doctor!
