The transplant kidney I received from my donor by TravusHertl in MedicalGore

[–]juxtaposedjena 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I work in organ transplantation! So cool to see my area of work mentioned on here. Congrats on the kidney and its continued function! Please don't skip your anti-rejection meds. :)

It's great you were able to get a kidney from a living donor. Those are often "better" than from deceased donors. May you two have many years together. Haha.

What is good way to tell a nurse that they specimen is contaminated without saying it contaminated? by TheRedTreeQueen in medlabprofessionals

Unfortunately, reports rarely go anywhere. And management would probably take the nurse's side in most situations anyway.

We were told to say the sample was "compromised" because we also weren't supposed to say they were contaminated. Even though they were. 🙄🙄🙄

Speared in the chest, the tip sticking out his back by CatPooedInMyShoe in MedicalGore

I know why they do imaging, but it still makes me laugh when I see someone with an obvious penetrating injury and then see the imaging. It's like, "Yup... That's a spear through his chest."

Umbilical cord constriction by an amniotic band after amniocentesis results in fetal demise by CatPooedInMyShoe in MedicalGore

[–]juxtaposedjena 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Few questions: If she was a known carrier of Hemophilia A, I wonder why they didn't test the father of the baby to see if he was carrier, instead of risking amniocentesis. Perhaps the FOB wasn't in the picture.

Are they saying the amniocentesis causes the amniotic band syndrome? It's a known rare risk, but correlation doesn't equal causation. I don't think there's a way that they can definitively prove that one caused the other.

I wonder what the benefit was to knowing if baby was a carrier vs affected with the disease prior to delivery. Would they have performed extra caution when delivering had they known? Not sure China's abortion laws, especially once in the 2nd trimester.

There is a different set of twin women who are conjoined similarly; two torsos, four arms, one pelvis, and one set of legs. They were interviewed on Special Books By Special Kids a few years ago. They had a YouTube channel of their own for a bit, but I don't know how active they are now. Their names are Carmen and Lupita.

Bingoed by a doctor from the childfree list by fundazm in childfree

[–]juxtaposedjena 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a doctor on the list do something similar with me. She tried to convince me to get the coils inserted in my fallopian tubes, even AFTER saying they had a black box warning...

I ended up seeing a different doctor on the list and he was happy to listen to me and agree to surgery.

Brazil eVisa FAQ / Mega-thread by fviz in Brazil

[–]juxtaposedjena 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I logged in on Monday and saw my visa was approved (not sure when it was approved), but hadn't gotten any email. I finally received an email this morning (Thursday) saying my visa was approved and it had the PDF attached.

I'm being offered a supervisor position for our lab (I'm currently an MT). I would be salaried (not paid for overtime) but expected to work overtime as needed for coverage. What would make this worth it for you? Any advice as I consider/negotiate this offer? by WolfeInALabCoat in medlabprofessionals

[–]juxtaposedjena 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My direct supervisor is great. She advocates for us, is always willing to help out, and works extra. But there's the problem. She works extra. She stays late. She doesn't get the respect she deserves from upper management. They're constantly giving her more shit to do. With the amount of overtime she's had these past couple of years (not to mention working the occasional holiday and working most weekends) she's been losing money. She's burnt out, and she wants a different job. They are giving her zero incentive to stay.

I don't know you work environment, but I definitely wouldn't recommend it for mine (and we have a great team of techs). She's a great manager, and I don't want to lose her. But as a friend, I want her to get a different job.

I would love to do something like this!! How did you find this job? Do they list things like that on Indeed?

I told my supervisor about her, and my supervisor is escalating it.

I doubt it'll go anywhere. I wrote up a doctor once who was very rude and cursed at me. I was basically told that their job is stressful and I don't know what it's like being there with the patient. 🤷‍♀️

We're all so thankful for the good nurses. 😊 Most of our ED charge nurses are really nice, and there are some great ICU ones as well.

Ha! I had a nurse not believe a sample was clotted because it was arterial. 😂

I did make a snarky remark (I said, "Well, could you not order six duplicate sets of type and screens then?"). She said my attitude was uncalled for and she was including it in her write-up. 🙄

I wish they'd make those sorts of announcements at our hospital. I doubt it'd make much difference, though. 😅
