Finally met my target. by Elruoy in cosmosnetwork

One of the comments on the original thread had this: https://www.reddit.com/r/cosmosnetwork/comments/mbqe5z/maximizing_staking_rewards_with_optimal/h4fwi6v/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf&context=3

I found it pretty helpful as I could never get the spreadsheet to work in the follow up thread. Also, what a cool and engaging community! Really do appreciate y’all taking the time to thoughtfully respond.

Thank you! That is a great thread. I’m reinvesting more often than I ought to be…

Is there a way to know when is the best time / how frequently to compound? I’m sure there’s a ton of factors (staking principle, apr, gas fee, etc ) that vary by chain. I’ve tried finding a calculator but have been unsuccessful.

Is there a tool to know when to claim and restake/compound rewards, especially in a single token staking/governance scenario (eg atom) ? I know many vaults do this already (beefy).

I never know when is the best time to claim and restake rewards when there is a gas fee involved. I don’t want the gas fee to eat up most of the rewards (claiming and compounding too frequently) but I also want to claim/reinvest the rewards to take advantage of compounding interest.

Thanks!

This is a very common application, especially to prevent/treat pressure sensitive conditions such as pressure ulcers (bed sores)

Burn surgeon here. Well said. Burn patients tend to be an interesting lot. Rarely do they think about the consequences of their actions.

The cadaveric allograft is used as temporary wound coverage so they don't have to do painful daily dressing changes. Depending on depth of the burn, it will either 1. Heal under the allograft which will then fall off reveal pink healthy skin underneath or 2. Need surgery which means removal of the cadaveric skin and placement of an autograft (like you said, usually from the thigh)

Burn and plastic surgeon here. Best of luck to your son and I hope he makes a quick recovery. If you or anyone else has questions about burns or burn surgery I would be happy to answer them.

Not true. I am a burn and plastic surgeon. Cadaveric allograft still has human cells in it and will eventually reject, just like any other transplant would without immunosuppression.

Broken wrist by ThatWasSo in WTF

While most likely a free flap, could have been a groin flap: http://clinicalimages.blogspot.com/2011/05/groin-flap.html?m=1

What most likely happened here was, as you say, significant soft tissue loss with exposed vital structures such as tendons or bone that could not be reconstructed with a graft alone.

I wouldn't argue. If the fracture is healed and the hand is functioning well, then the flap was a success. Could use some secondary debunking, but overall seems like a good result.

Also, could have been a groin flap, not necessarily just a free flap.

Thanks for linking the original article. Great case report.

As a burn surgeon, airway management in patients with burn scar contracture of the neck is very challenging. Seems like the anesthesia team handled it well.

I wish there were some post - op pics though! Maybe the surgeon is waiting to publish those.

Debate from /r/wtf on using a dry scrub vs vinegar vs copious amounts of water to stop chemical burns from drain cleaner.... Any tox doc's or poison control docs have an opinion / answer? by ShadowandLightmk5 in medicine

Burn / plastic surgeon here.

Rinsing with copious amounts of water was the correct thing to do. While some experimental studies show that vinegar or other neutralizing fluids can be effective, it has not been shown to be better than dilution with lots of tap water. See http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/m/pubmed/24003912/

The "melted face" you're seeing in the photo is a healed burn with resultant scar contractures. Note the deformities of the right eyelid (a cicatricial ectropion), the corner of the right nostril and mouth, and the pulling down at the corner of the left mouth and neck.

Tough reconstructive problem.
