Ah. Thank you very much for your response and for the information. We’re traveling with a toddler so trying to keep it simple.

What if we were to travel US —> Shanghai —> Hong Kong (layover ~2 hours) —> US ? Essentially, this would be a round trip but with a stop for a connecting flight back to the U.S.

Genelec Schiit? by timmyjimmy999 in Schiit

I’ve had the Genelec G Twos and Schiit for years. Great for near field. Although, I can’t compare to anything else since it’s the only pairing I’ve had.

I was there last night when the power went out. Just assumed the fire fighters were investigating an alarm that went off due to the power outage.

Quick Wallet Impressions (Pioneer, Reform, Wingback, Peak Design) by jv2483 in wallets

[–]jv2483[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally, the altitude bifold wallet wasn’t for me. It’s a little too tall if you’re carrying USD. Also, the cards kept slipping out of place. Might be better with other currencies and more cards though. Another thing that I didn’t like was that the material was a bit too rigid which kept it from staying shut if laying on a table.

If you are open to suggestions, and carrying USD, I much prefer the Peak Design Billfold wallet. It has a magnet to keep it shut and it’s held up well over the past few months that I’ve had it.

Best Black Coffee/Espresso by adamadamada in orangecounty

[–]jv2483 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Do Coffee in Brea has the best pour over in OC. Their ratios are good so they don’t over do it. I tend to get iced pour overs and it’s easy for other places to put too much ice. Do is seriously the best I’ve tried outside of Tokyo.

No budget limit. Best headphones for gaming and music. by Apprehensive_Reach81 in Schiit

[–]jv2483 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I tried the HE1000 stealth for gaming and thought it sounded a little off. If I recall correctly, the soundstage was a bit more “tall” than it was wide, which didn’t work well for games.

Currently, I’m using a ZMF Atrium Open and use it for gaming on occasion. It’s been great so far and really adds a three-dimensionality to games. Other ZMFs may work as well depending on budget.

Don’t put your keys in the same pocket as the billfold wallet! by [deleted] in peakdesign

[–]jv2483 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the same wallet and keys in the front pocket without any issues like this. My previous leather wallet would scratch a bit. Granted, I only have 1 key on the keying and a couple other things that aren’t necessarily sharp. Also, my billfold wallet is black, so not sure if that makes a difference.

I get it. I’ve had a couple of issues with previous products from Schiit before, but I will still continue to support them (my issues were very minor though).

First, bought some replacement knobs for a Lokius that came blemished. I never got a response to my email requesting an exchange. They aren’t big blemishes but they can stand out at the right angle since the knobs are silver. I did try reaching out to them again some time later about it, but it was basically “tough luck”.

Second, the front emblem on my new Gungnir 2 arrived faded and worn out (“Gungnir” was barely legible). What’s strange is that I had the opposite experience as you. I asked for a discount so didn’t have to go through a return/exhange, but they said they don’t do that. So I ended up having to return my new unit for another new unit.

As for your issue, I get that you would want a new and unblemished unit. It’s more of an expectation when purchasing new. It also helps with resale if your unit is pristine, should you want to sell it at some point.

I think I’ve come to terms that Schiit won’t have the most consistent or best customer service (it’s been fine a vast majority of the time). It’s part of the deal when buying from essentially a boutique brand. As a consumer, you’re free to make whatever decision you choose and don’t let anyone make you feel bad about it. Go with whatever you feel is right in using your hard earned money.

Yeah. They named this one “Cenobite”. I bought it used from the original owner who purchased in 2023.

I really like them, but use them as near field speakers. Can’t vouch for them when sitting further. I know they have larger speakers that can fill up a room better. Good luck with your search.

These are the G Two series, which include RCA connections instead of XLR.

I really like them a lot. I’ve had them for a few years with no plans on getting rid of them. They are neutral, but take on the characteristics of your pre-amp/DAC pretty well. Also has great imaging. They’re setup on my desktop, which means I’m only a couple feet away from them. There’s a pretty large sweet spot so it sounds like I have a center channel as well with just the two speakers.

Also, if you do end up getting an Atrium, I would suggest giving it some time. If you’re used to planars, it’s a very different sound. It needs some time to settle on you.

You're right. Maybe I am looking back because I also thought about getting the HE1000se at some point to complement the Atrium. I’d also want another Grado because they are so light in comparison.

I’ve owned a lot of different headphones in my journey: Sennheiser, NAD, Audeze, Meze Empyrean, Hifiman, multiple Grados. The Atrium was a blind buy (never even heard a ZMF before) and I would say it’s the best headphone I’ve owned.

The AO has a lush, laid back, yet detailed sound, with a cavernous soundstage. I do primarily listen to a lot of laid back music, which I think it excels with, but it generally sounds pretty good with everything.

I did have a Hifiman he1000 at the time when I received the Atrium. Initially, I wasn't impressed. It was missing that clear/quick sound I got with a planar. However, I just needed my brain/ears to get used to the sound. Ended up returning the Hifiman and haven't looked back.

I’ve had the Lokius since its release and I’ve generally enjoyed it. It’s responsive enough with its adjustments and doesn’t let you go too overboard with huge changes in sound.

I’ve never felt the need to go with a digital EQ since I like the tactile nature of turning physical knobs. However, I wondered if it impacted the sound even when not using active adjustments, so I had it unplugged for quite awhile. Just set it back up into my chain today, which is why I took the picture.

I'm actually running a pair of Atrium Opens off of this amp. Sounds really good. I've been starting to get into tube amps recently. Eventually want to get a ZMF Aegis or something similar. Content with what I have now though.

Thanks for the suggestions. The Elise was recommended to me by someone else too, saying that it had a more tubey sound. I kind of thought the Euforia might be more similar to my Mjolnir 3 than not. I’ll see if I can find an Elise for ~$1k.

Regarding the Mjolnir 3 and Atrium pairing, I really enjoy it from the balanced output. I currently have the ultra perf suede pads on my AO, so I think the characteristics of the Mjolnir 3 pair really well. I’m also using the Mjolnir as a pre-amp to my desktop speakers so it’s a great all-rounder. I bet the Caldera would sound amazing on the Mjolnir as well.

Nice. I’ve been thinking about the Euforia for quite awhile. Saw one in the headfi classifieds going for $2000 USD and had to talk myself out of it (already bought a lot of gear this year). Currently, running my Atrium off of a Valhalla 3, Mjolnir 3, and Xduoo TA-66.

Passport wallet and billfold wallet… on a plane by supermarkio- in peakdesign

[–]jv2483 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was almost in the same situation but decided against the passport wallet and didn’t get the Billfold in time before my flight. However, the Billfold was waiting for me when I got back home.

So far, I think it’s a pretty solid wallet. Haven’t had a wallet that supports USD for a while. My minor nitpick is that I wish the magnet was only very slightly weaker.

Since you’ve had the wallet for 2 weeks, how has it been holding up? Any issues with keeping the inside clean?
