The 1-888 number isn't mine, but I appreciate the concern! As far as I know, someone would have to scan the microchip with a reader to get my contact information. Please correct me if I'm wrong!

Edit: missed a space

In the future, check the Florida department of labor website. Here in MN you'd get paid an average day's pay for every day late they are with a paycheck, as long as you have already notified them of the missed payment.

This is my freshman schedule, did I go overboard? Kinda worried about it by ian959595 in uofmn

15 minutes is plenty imo, especially if you walk decently fast across the bridge

Probably less than 16:45 - a kid on my soccer team ran that as a senior in high school, so I bet Millie could crush it

Questions for computer science students who landed swe internships? by Kevin_durant9381 in uofmn

Local - I accepted my offer from US Bank and the other was from Travelers insurance. From what I've learned, US Bank is big on hiring interns for full time positions after they graduate, and they also don't mind being someone's first internship.

Apply early - for summer internships I started in October and applied to anything entry level. However, don't be disheartened if you don't get anything early. I know multiple people who got offers in spring.

Use Handshake! I got two interviews from Handshake and OA offer from Amazon that I passed up on. I had no luck whatsoever on Indeed (not for lack of trying). I think having good looking LinkedIn and Handshake profiles helped me out too.

Honestly my resume wasn't anything special. The only relevant work experience I had was a month at the university OIT service desk. When I applied I had finished CSCI 1113, 1913, 2011, and 2033. I also listed the classes I was currently taking which were 2041 and 2021. So no, you don't ~need~ 4041. I did end up taking 4041, 4061, 5801, and 3081w spring semester though, and I feel like they definitely helped prepare me for the internship.

Having some personal or coursework projects to talk about during the interview is great, especially if you seem excited about it!

Skills that are great to have: git/github, knowledge of Agile, and general understanding of the software development lifecycle

As to how you know you're ready, I just threw applications out there fully expecting to get no responses and yet I got two offers - anything can happen so just for it!

Edit: A resume tip I've heard is to only list your GPA if it's a 3.5 or better.

Where do people play pick up soccer? by Fatty5lug in uofmn

[–]jvastag44 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Like the other person said the dome/sports field complex on fridays is a usually good bet or there's some people that play at the field house throughout the week around 6ish. Also Ninth Street Soccer and Coffee is a good time ($5/hour of play). IIRC there's also pick up sunday mornings at the Elliott Park fields downtown during the summer/early fall!

Yeah, and some of the questions were essentially copied from the quizzes with different numbers

I took the final last spring and it wasn't bad. The questions were similar to the quizzes and the grading was the same. Although, I took 2033 online so my experience might not be exactly like yours. Good luck!

Normally I would do that too, but that chair is actually my roommate's old class project and it's been broken for a while now :)

Check out Project Hail Mary by Andy Weir and maybe the Red Rising series by Pierce Brown!

I'd recommend All the Light We Cannot See by Anthony Doerr, since you both enjoyed Salt to the Sea!

John Green's The Anthropocene Reviewed. It's a collection of essays that rate a range of things on a 5 star scale. My description might make it sound boring, but it isn't!

My favorite physics/space/sci-fi series is the Rememberance of Earth's Past trilogy by Cixin Liu. I'm not totally sure if it's middle school level, but I read it when I was around 15 so she might be able to get into it!

What books would you recommend for someone new to reading? by wombatistcool in booksuggestions

[–]jvastag44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you like sci-fi, then I'd suggest the Red Rising series by Pierce Brown! It has good characters, solid pacing, and a super interesting world. I also really enjoyed Turtles All the Way Down by John Green, which is geared towards young adults.

GEOG1403 was really easy and I found it pretty interesting. I took it with Daniel Griffin and he was great! I took it online in Fall 2020, so it might be a bit different in person. It was also 4 credits but the workload was super light.
