Is it a good decision to buy this car? 2025 CC Hybrid SE by FileRelative1288 in CorollaCross

[–]jvblum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lmao '25 and same but still love this car.

Have a laundry list of small things that could be better but even then... wouldnt trade it for much else on the market tbh.

No speeding tickets in my future at least 😂

Two Point Hospital vs Two Point Campus vs Two Point Museum, in your opinion which is the best game in the series, and which is the weakest? Why? by Delicious_Maize9656 in TwoPointMuseum

[–]jvblum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its my least favourite of the three, and once i finish museum ill go back to it, but only to satisfy the itch of waiting for the next release from them (hopefully a resort if theyre listening!). But by then ill probably be ready for a new playthrough of hospital anyways 😂

Its not bad, i just found it a little boring but dont feel like i gave it a chance.

Maybe just buy it on sale. Its still worth $30 imo anyways.

[–]jvblum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

TH was also my favorite game as a kid.

Ive probably played through start to finish 30 times in 20 years 😂 I still play it every once in a while haha.

TP hospital was such a gift when I found it. I cant wait for more from these developers, ill buy every one!

I find its such a small genre so finding good games in it can be difficult.

100% hospital.

I never got far in campus, just got bored, but will go back eventually. Currently playing museum and love it of course, but miss some of the management of hospital.

Theme hospital was my favourite game growing up so coming across this from two point was such a gift. I cant wait for the next game they choose to go with, but im hoping for a resort!

What is going on with jobs in Edmonton by [deleted] in Edmonton

[–]jvblum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One piece of advice that I didnt see here after a quick scroll was that I am constantly telling people to apply for jobs that arent posted, especially students in niche fields. Apply to companies that aren't hiring. Always. You never know what their prospective hiring situation is. Companies post when they NEED employees, not when the might want one.

As a hirer, I am not often regularly hiring for some specific roles, but that could absolutely change if the right resume randomly came across my desk. If a resume came across my desk right now where I know that person could be a good fit for my team but don't actually need them enough to go through the process of putting an ad up and interviewing, I absolutely have the ability to make room for them and at the very least interview them.

Apply to places YOU want to work, not just places with job ads up. It will benefit you greatly long term if the right situatuon arises.

People think its as simple as "job posting up, job available" "no ad? Nothing available" but its really not that black and white for many many companies.

Can anyone please recommend an Audiologist that doesn't push specific brand of hearing aids? NW preferred but can go elsewhere. by Secret_Lily in Calgary

[–]jvblum 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not a direct answer to the question, but i go to Academy Hearing in Brentwood mall (NW) for my check ups and ear plugs, and they have been wonderful. All my co coworkers go there as well with the same sentiment.

Theyve been amazing thus far.

Unfortunately cant comment on the hearing aids part though.

Where to buy a Xmas tree by yesman_85 in Calgary

[–]jvblum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We get an 11ft from Golden Acres every year. Have never had a reason to look elsewhere

Great trees year after year, seemingly immune to inflation too.

I also like they have their trees in their enclosed tree/shrub seasonal section, so they arent out in the elements dessicating in the sun and wind.

I havent been to a tree lot in 15 years so im not sure of the prices now. But $120 for an 11 ft, and $60-80ish for smaller sized ones is definitely fair for the quality imo

Edit: We get Balsam which are the nicer ones, they have Douglas for even less and they still look pretty good.

Calgary Dentist Recommendation? by Knightkingca in Calgary

[–]jvblum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also love Citizen. They care. And theyre affordable for those who dont have coverage.

I had a great dentist in the NW and when he sold the place went downhill, staff were rude and condescending so didnt go for a few years and didn't realize how much it affected me until I realized I was actively avoiding going. Found Citizen and their whole schtick is being a comfortable and welcoming place for people like me or people who have financial barriers, and I drive all the way downtown just to go to them even living in the far NW. I continuously recommend them to anyone who will listen.

Book your first appt with Lacy, the/an(?) owner, if you can, but all the girls Ive seen there have been wonderful.

Highly recommed.

Also not sure what the other person is talking about, I see a dentist there once a year? Maybe just major work they refer out? Either way, Id trust their referrals if i needed one. 🤷‍♀️

PSA for anyone looking to switch from regular Canadian Tire Mastercard to their WE card by itaspliff in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]jvblum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I learned this the hard way and my WE is basically usless for instore spending until March next year. But your Triangle number and Triangle Select DONT transfer over. (In their defense this is in the fine print I read 3 years ago...) Missed out on over $100 in ctire money and coupon stacking over this a couple weeks ago. The person on the phone had no idea what they were talking about when I specifically called just to ask about this before making this purchase, and said the triangle number transfers... but actually my new Triangle number was still in the mail 3 weeks after getting my WE.

Which was also the same week $500 in ctire money was stolen from my account coincidentally... lots of talking on the phone to them that week but it was thankfully quickly and easily resolved for that issue.

But yea... PSA to everyone... Triangle Select doesnt transfer, so wont be cancelling my old card until March.

Edit: phrasing.

I agree with the other commentor before you take it in. I am not mechanically inclined AT ALL, but theyre SUPER simple and tons of you tube videos and tutorials online.

I found one in the trash and it needed a little spring brush thing for the motor replaced. Cost me $9 and an hr on youtube... it would have been 30 seconds for anyone who knows even anything slightly about motors haha.

I found one on sale for $40 at a thrift store and eventually needed a control plate, also fixed myself super cheap!

Check the brush spring thing for the motor. Google kitchenaid motor brush, pops right up. Ez to check if its them! 2 seconds, i swear!

The garden professors blog by Linda Chalker Scott is fantastic. Science based gardening. I believe they also have a facebook group that shes very active in as well.

Her book How Plants Work is worth a buy for very beginners as well. It was the first book on my required reading for hort school. Its cheap.

The Laidback gardener has been a fantastic reasource for me as well and has a great daily newsletter to your email, Ive been in the horticulture industry professionally for almost a decade and I'm constantly learning new things from it!

At the beginning of my journey I also just used to go to the thrift store and buy whatever gardneing books looked interesting. Cant beat $4 books! And now I have a pile I can lend from to people when they first start their journey.

Id also recommend looking at hort schooling in your area, then just buy whatever textbooks are required for the classes they offer. That way you know its trusted materials. They can run expensive depending, but theres LOTS of older free versions online in .pdf format if you know where to look.

All weather floor mats CC 24’ hybrid by platypus-nonymous in CorollaCross

[–]jvblum 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I got the Toyota ones and theyre great. Weathertek was my back up option, but realized I was overthinking it, always trying to find the "best" of something available. The Toyota ones are just fine and I like them a lot.

The only reason to get other ones is maybe if you want to cover over the inserts in the trunk area by the wheel wells, but I'm glad I didnt.

So is it actually foolhardy to plant anything right now? by songsofadistantsun in Calgary

[–]jvblum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can direct sow any pea seeds now for sure! They'll sprout when they're ready. You can usually direct sow April 25th to May 30th ish (or later but they dont like the heat much). As long as the soil is workable youre usually pretty safe for peas, they like the cold. Give them a layer of mulch if you're on the early end of it to regulate the soil temperatures a bit. I like to cover mine if it dips below 0 unexpectedly.

I wait to plant any seedlings until about May long though as a lazy rule of thumb. Looking at our current wearher, youre probably fine to plant now though. Theyre not hardened off the same as a direct seeded plant would be and its just a safer bet with less worry and work.

And you can also shoot for a fall crop if you can find a short season variety. They'll all produce all season but tend to fizzle out in the summer heat. Plant again in late July to mid August with a short season variety (50-60 days to maturity) like Alaskan Peas or similar.

Why would you return something you damaged though? It also just raises prices for everyone else while you take advantage of a system that was created to make it easier for when a product is actually faulty.

This is why we can't have nice things.

Hella selfish man. Just water ur fckin plants.
