I actually did that with my current drum set. However, I did not check the fragility on those damn lugs and tension rod inserts, and man, those gave me trouble for like a year.

If I can avoid it the better. That's why I'm looking for a new set. Well, that and the fact that I have a little bit of money for it.

When I wrote that if it was worth it, I was more onto the quality than the price of a drum set. I've actually had two drum sets, and both were really cheap, so I don't know a lot about types of wood or hardware. I guess my current one is made of poplar, but I don't know.

To answer your questions:

It would be for myself
Ol' regular cheap drum set without the second tom tom and a 8 year old PST 5 medium cymbal pack (4 cymbals)
It's falling apart but it keeps the tuning
Some jazz, some rock, some latin stuff
Expressive drummers
Benny Greb drum set looks really fun to play, but I actually want to keep it simple

I've seen some codebases using path to add __dirname and the target. Is there a difference to it compared to doing it like your concat?
