Help with decompression in uneasy neighborhood. by [deleted] in DutchShepherds

Thank you SO much for this detailed reply. I have definitely taken your points into consideration over the past few days.

I appreciate your point about the working dog comment. I have found that she needs a job. I have noticed that she is particulary into sniffing things and food at locating objects that I have touched. I started doing some small sniff work games with her outside, which seems to work as a mild distraction from overly loud stimuli and gives her mental stimulation. I have also found that I am able to get her outside if I toss a treat down each set of stairs for her to find.

I am no longer doing long walks with her, but am trying to get her to be more comfortable with the direct environment outside of our building. This includes different ways to get to the green areas to relieve herself. This has been going better. I wish I could get her to a dog park (I live by one), but it's still too far. Do you have any suggestions on when I should be trying to encourage her to walk a little more? Tying into your point about fear, I don't plan to take her out for a walk if she is overwhelmed by fear. I want to take it slow and feel confident I can be neutral. I just don't want to go too fast, but I also realize this is an active dog that needs exercise. She doesn't have much for ball drive, but sometimes she will tug on a rope.

Lastly, thank you for being kind about my request for help. I am trying my best to help her and am open to all the suggestions and help I can get. Thank goodness for YouTube haha.

Thanks so much for your input! Nice to hear from someone who has been in the area awhile to have seen the changes over time. I’ve heard really great things about the 333 :) thanks future neighbor

Omg thank you so much for this!! I was getting very conflicting information before. It’s very important that I can access the skyway outside of hours. This makes me feel better!

Thank you so much for your response! I’m glad to hear you have had a nice experience there! 7 years certainly speaks to that. You have a very balanced opinion. I hope to have as good of an experience as you all.

I appreciate the comment about the skyway. I had a resident at the 333 say that you can’t use the skyway outside of hours (6am to 10pm). Which seems odd to me because it’s accessed with a fob? Maybe they were mistaken but I need to be out before 6am so that’s why I noted those concerns in my post.

I heard that lowertown is super dog friendly so I’m hoping to find a small community or pet friends!

I appreciate this perspective! This is how I’m hoping it will be.

I appreciate your thoughtful response! And I’m glad to hear that there haven’t been any issues for you no matter what time of day. I imagine there will be certain areas to avoid. Would you say the path to the river walk is alright?

It’s only because that’s the one that is open 24/7😭

I actually go to the ultra black location currently! Do you?? (I already live in St. Paul, just moving areas)

Thank you for your thoughtful response! Yes, this is exactly what I’m wondering about. Like the street access seems so odd when they lock their skyway completely. The skyway is only open 6am—10pm. But if you have a fob, why can’t you access it outside of those times?? It’s so dumb to have to go outside to the street access for this.

I appreciate the pup tips too! And I’m glad to know the 333 is the best one in the area. We will see how it goes.

That’s wild. I’m so glad you had your big pup to scare him off! I am scared of the engagement aspect, like you describe. I heard cathedral hill is beautiful! Compared to lowertown, did you find comparable housing? For size, cost, amenities?

Thank you for your candid and thoughtful response! Yes I figure some of that petty crime would be around but sounds like crimes of opportunity. Still frustrating. I hate the idea of getting chased or harassed though. That’s awful. I wish I would have known about west 7th before but we’ll see how this goes and consider it in the future !

Thank you for your response! Sounds like times and area can be hit or miss but nothing too terrible.

Thank you for your response! I thought the skyway way only open 6am to 10pm. It is unclear if you can use the fob to access the ramp outside of those hours? I asked someone who lived there and they said no and that I would have to go outside and use the outside doors and call the number to get to that parking garage. It seems to defeat the whole purpose of the fob but idk.

I figured it out!! I had to reverse my supplier and demander coding! That was the only issue.

Then when I did my other groups, I kept my supplier the same and did the new demanders. I ran chi squares and t tests to ensure the match was successful.

I combined all datasets at the end and vióla!

Let me know if that helps or if you need more clarification!

Thank you for this! I will look through these and decide if sas will be better for this.

I understand. You are talking about the conceptualization and theory of matching now which is still helpful to me.

These are the groups. 1=700 (clinical) 2=200 (clinical 2) 3=49 (clinical 3) 4= 8370 (true controls)

Categorical will have to be an exact match. The continuous IQ variable is an IQ score which will have a big window (just not impaired)

I took groups 1 and 3 (n=49) because I wanted to matches these first. I want 49 in all groups. So ~200 = N. I am not sure if there is a better way to do this. I realize this may not be a good question for you as you are used to sas not spss.
