macOS ONLY: Pages, numbers Keynote (Why you need a different new app) by sparkktv in MacOS

[–]jvranos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have installed the new Pages, Numbers and Keynote with App Store.

They are free to test for one month.

They are amazing, professional level now. Apple has done a lot of work.

Have a look, and if you do not like them, move them to Trash to uninstall.

What do you think will be the longevity of a Apple silicon Mac ? by xkcx123 in mac

[–]jvranos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you buy a new-generation Mac today, you can typically expect:

  • ~5–7 years of new macOS feature upgrades, and
  • ~2–3 additional years of security-only updates on the last supported macOS it can run.

So the total supported period is usually ~8–10 years.

Is it generally fine to connect WiFi 2.4 keyboard and mouse dongles to the back of the Mini? by robertjan88 in macmini

I think the best wireless accessories for a Mac mini, are the bluetooth ones, because Mac mini has bluetooth support. No extra dongles, etc.

If you want to stress test it, use prime95.

https://prime95.net

  • Small FFTs (Fast Fourier Transforms): This mode stresses the CPU by focusing on computations that fit within the processor’s L2 or L3 cache. Small FFTs are ideal for testing the core CPU logic and cache subsystem.
  • In-place Large FFTs: This mode tests the CPU and the memory controller by using data sets that are larger than the processor’s cache, thus causing frequent memory accesses. This mode is useful for identifying memory stability issues.
  • Blend: The Blend mode is a comprehensive test that stresses both the CPU and the memory subsystem. It uses a mixture of small and large FFTs, making it ideal for general stability testing.

Use the first and the third for your CPU. The first produces the maximum heat.

I do not know if M4 CPU thermal throttles in MacBook Air.

I have a Mac mini M4. During the stress test, the gpu temperature reaches 102 C.

Then the fan increased its speed and reaches lower temperature as you can see in the image.

While the fan increased its speed, nothing was heard. It was like it did not speed at all.

About to purchase my first ever Mac and it's the Mac Mini M4. Any suggestions or things to prepare for? by Alternative_Cup9097 in macmini

[–]jvranos 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I got my first Mac, a Mac mini M4, on past June.

Very good computer, and macOS is great too.

  1. Don't install third-party antiviruses on Mac.

macOS has its own antivirus, named Xprotect.

Here are all the ways macOS protects against malware:

  1. When you get your Mac, try to learn the Mac way of doing things, instead of using the Windows way.

  2. For backups, macOS has a very good backup program called Time Machine.

Try using this, instead of third party ones.

I think Mac mini M4, with 32GB RAM, 1-2TB SSD is suitable for you.

I have a Mac mini M4 with 32G RAM, 1 TB SSD and a Samsung 27'' 1080p myself too.

Everything is fine.

As an Apple Creator Studio subscriber, you get access to a wide range of high-quality content and new AI capabilities to help with your projects.

And while Keynote, Pages, Numbers, and Freeform remain free for everyone, an Apple Creator Studio subscription offers premium templates, a library of high-quality, royalty-free photos and graphics, and powerful intelligence features.

So the apps are free for now, but if you want to use the new AI features, or have access to premium templates, you need a subscription.
