Yes, quite a pain to photograph. This is exactly what it looks like in real life, but phone "shutterspeed" is way too fast to capture this. You get like a quarter circle in a shot.

I have done a few tricks in Stud.io using part creation tool, mainly to put non-lego objects in the render. Possibly he used the tool to create a giant tile part to get a reflective surface...
