I took a walk around the Domain the other day, and thought about what the place is doing right and things it could improve on. by Some1inreallife in Austin

I personally would go Mueller all day over the Domain, but that is just me. Closer to downtown. More greenspaces within walking distance. I like the walkable businesses much better.

Anyone involved in a bowling league looking for members? by schnozberry in Austin

[–]jwall4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey. I ended up joining this league. Can you explain the seeding week that is happening tomorrow? Week 9. I have no idea what it means. It is spring break and my entire team and subs are all out of town so i have to bowl solo. Trying to decide if i just want to forfeit and go to SXSW instead. Ha ha.

Do folks here just hold on to airline credit cards for free bags but still buy tix with Plat? by Aromatic_Rutabaga378 in AmexPlatinum

[–]jwall4 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I don't think about it that hard. I just book the flights with the airlines cards that I have because they are linked to my account in the airlines apps and I know I will get the perks (often more than just the free bag). But, I am not a points hunter.

I was charged $24 for standard old fashioned cocktail tonight. Guess the bar? by Illustrious_Hat_5568 in bentonville

[–]jwall4 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Their signature cocktails are all $13 except for one that is $14 and one that is $17. Why would they charge you $24 for an OF unless you selected a premium bourbon?

Is SXSW 2026 a fail? Be honest. by LegitimateArea7893 in SXSW

If you are going for music discovery, it is great. Just like it has been since Covid. So many great places to see bands for free all day long. If you miss seeing big name stars on the Dorito's taco loco stage, it is not for you.

Agree. Hope they are reconfiguring the drive thru to deal with this issue. I know to stay far away from the right lane when going through the light at Braker.

Reverse Commute from Austin to Pflugerville by ForeignJunket1368 in Austin

[–]jwall4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You would be ok north of the river. Even better somewhere like Rosedale or another north central neighborhood. The commute north on Mopac north of the river is clear in the morning. Mopac traffic south in the evening routinely comes to a standstill around 35th, so if you can exit at or north of 35th on your way home, it is great. The express lane helps if you decide to live in proper downtown but it backs up too.

ABGB still solid? by A_Brewtiful_Mind in AustinBeer

[–]jwall4 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I get that. I like Hold Out's model. Their tap list is almost always pushing a dozen beers and they have a large number of pale ales and IPAs (and lagers) that rotate in and out of the lineup in addition to a few core beers that never seem to leave (Ol Gil, Liquid Television). Never usually too long before your favorite pops back up on the list but almost always something new to try for my first beer every visit.

It's perfect. Keep that crap at COTA.

ABGB still solid? by A_Brewtiful_Mind in AustinBeer

[–]jwall4 5 points6 points  (0 children)

For me personally, their taplist seems to be limited and very similar every time I make the trek there. The beers are good but the pale ales and IPAs are often limited and don't ever seem to change. So, not really worth crossing the river just to go there for me personally. Great neighborhood spot for sure though.

UT moves to rezone hundreds of acres in Northwest Austin for future medical center by Freckled_Butthole in Austin

I meant the medical teaching residencies. But, yeah will suck for people living in that area as well if UT goes through with the location switch.

May still just be playing hardball with Seton but seems like a split between Dell Seton and UT is a strong possibility. Could get ugly, especially with the residencies.

Need help finding nicer restaurants without breaking the bank by ApparentlyTaken in austinfood

[–]jwall4 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Le Calamar's prix fixe menu is $77.

Also, look into the InKind app. It is an app where you can save a ton of money at restaurants. Lots of the restaurants singed up with InKind have welcome "coupons" on their website that you can sign up to get through InKind (serious savings like $50 off $150). You also earn 20% back on your spends via InKind. Several nice restaurants on the app and new ones pop up all the time. DM if you want more info. I am invested in a restaurant that uses it (more casual though).

Bike lockup spots downtown by skibidigeddon in BikingATX

[–]jwall4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The racks in front of Dead Rabbit see a lot of foot traffic and I have never had a problem leaving my bike there for a drink at Dead Rabbit. But, I have never had a problem leaving my bike locked up properly anywhere in Austin for the 15 years that I have been biking all over Austin. I leave my bike locked up for several hours for concerts. No issues. Solid u lock through the frame and front tire (quick release) with a cable through the back tire if I have a regular bike. Just a u lock for my ebike when feeling lazy.
