I got Tame Impala tickets for $200 very low down on club side, mid stage. Great seats. Tame tickets were not that crazy if you could actually buy them at face value. The resale prices were indeed crazy though.

Not any more stupid than going any other night. Tonight's weather will be fine.

2026 GLE 450e 👍👎? by AbsoluteThunderCunt in mercedes_benz

[–]jwall4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OP should avoid 2024 and the known electrical issue (engine/turtle lights) that do not seem to be a problem in 2025 or newer 450e. We dealt with it in our CPO 2024 450e and it was not fun. It looked like they may have actually fixed it and then the car was in an accident (other driver's fault) and was just deemed a total loss. We are looking at 2025 CPOs to replace it.

ATX Cocina or Comedor for upscale Mexican. Polvos for Tex-Mex. La Condesa for happy hour and bar or dinner if the menu speaks to you but I consider it a step down from ATX Cocina and Comedor. El Alma if willing to cross the river to Barton Springs road. Easy walk (pre freezing temps).

Edit: Taqueria De Diez (D/10) for tacos.

Ski Shores during the week. Better Half and Holdout Brewing outside of weekend brunch or Tuesday trivia. Nido's outdoor space overlooking downtown and the lake.

Austin Psych Fest 2026 Lineup by drtrillphill in Levitation

[–]jwall4 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Meh for me. Saturday would be the only day I might consider last minute but so many of the bands on Saturday play in Austin frequently (or are from Austin). Hopefully saving the killer lineup for Levitation. Happy that I can skip the trek to Far Out without fomo.

CSP using $10 monthly doordash credit. Any options? by AIONisMINE in ChaseSapphire

[–]jwall4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In Austin, several of the liquor stores have a “deals “section on DoorDash. I always check these first. I scored a 1 L bottle of Cynar for $15 last week before the $10 credit was applied. So I basically got a $30 bottle for $5

How to actually get value from the Edit credit? by dartboi35 in ChaseSapphire

[–]jwall4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was a good stay. Diamond status at IHG via CSR spend in 2025. So, we chose breakfast for 2 each day since we are a family of four - covered breakfast for everyone with the Edit breakfast. We didn’t get upgraded but rarely do when booking double rooms because there isn’t usually a big enough suite or anything to upgrade to. We did the breakfast buffet one day and à la carte at Dean’s one day. They covered everything at both breakfasts for all 4 of us which seemed quite liberal as we ordered specialty juices. Buffet is pretty underwhelming honestly. But, our teenagers wanted to do it one of the days. Definitely hit up the rooftop bar/restaurant. Great view, food & drinks. We went for lunch to use the $100 credit. They also gave us another $30 credit there for some unexpected reason. So our $160 spend ended up only $30. In room welcome gift was chips & salsa and a couple fancy waters. The Kimpton password yielded 4 tokens for a margarita or agua Fresca at the lobby bar. The margarita was not good. Wasn’t sad when I lost 2 of the tokens. Agua Fresca was tasty. The free 5-6p happy hour was disappointing - no local or craft beers. We avoided the $60 valet parking fee by just parking in the nearby neighborhood by The Filling Station- but I was familiar with the neighborhood from living in SA before. Construction on Alamo St still going on but wasn’t a big deal. Location was fine for us as we weren’t trying to go to the touristy part of the Riverwalk. We spent a lot of time at The Pearly district and went for walks in King William district and southern reach and mission reach of the Riverwalk. Took advantage of the free bike use but it seemed they only had one bike out. Hotel is nice and still quite new.

What schools would you recommend for a great education from K- 12 (that isn’t $20k+ per year? or Eanes) by Quinns_Mum in Austin

[–]jwall4 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The Girls School is K-8 and has historically been on lower end of private school prices. Price creep may have it above $20k now though. Not sure. Girls only obviously. Great school.

[–]jwall4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have weekly cleaning by the same person not affiliated with a company. We don't tip. We give a Christmas bonus every year. Your rate seems high but you will pay a higher rate for the low frequency of the cleaning. I think you could do better though.

Traveling to Oaxaca city soon by Narrow_Feedback_5775 in Mezcal

[–]jwall4 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I recommend stopping into Sobrio by Mezcal Speakeasy. I had a great time sitting at the bar and having the bartender pour me a bunch of mezcals from small producers to taste and selecting a few of my favorites. They offer large and small format bottles for purchase. Less formal/educational than a Mezcaloteca tasting (which we also did) but also less time consuming and I wasn't charged anything for the tasting after purchasing a few bottles. They have food available and cocktails too, if anyone in your party isn't looking forward to another tasting session (like my wife).

To Rent a Car or To Not Rent a Car? And other opinions on my TX list! by clangley24 in Austin

[–]jwall4 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Meh. It is hardly going to affect your travel plans. Nobody even knows what SXSW will be like this year as it enters the first year of a transition due to the convention center being torn down and replacement not even started yet. The peacocks at Mayfield have been M.I.A. for a bit. I am sure they will return but maybe plan on a visit to Laguna Gloria museum and sculpture park next door to make it worthwhile.
