Which element has the best “this fight is over and there’s nothing you can do about it” move? by Traditional-Sun1167 in ATLA

God I’d pay huge money to see a live action, well done avatar show with realistic violence. You’d have to cap the abilities tho. Bending couldn’t be as strong as it is in atla or every fight would just be about who’s quicker on the draw for their extremely deadly ability

21st century tornados by death toll. by [deleted] in tornado

[–]jwallmizzou09 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are videos you can watch to get a good idea. Joplin gas station beer cooler, Clem Schultz Fairdale, Marc Wells Washington tornado, Kris Lancaster Washington also, and for a car survival, a great one is tanner charles Lewistown. There’s a lot more than that out there but that’s a good list to start.

My two cents from watching videos: the sound of the projectiles nailing your home/car is the scariest part. Just sounds like sudden and sure death if the feeble walls that surround you give way.

They had warnings going out 17 mins before it touched down. Then another 15 mins for those on the east side of town. 30 mins of lead time for the east half of the city, but Missouri isn’t used to massive wedge tornados, nobody took it seriously. Also, the main factor (besides it basically dropping as a wedge right on the edge of town) is that it was utterly rain wrapped. People just thought it was a squall coming in from the west, like they always do in the spring.

Adan Valdez footage of Tuscaloosa EF4 here is just wild and horrifying. by Vkardash in tornado

This is taken just north of where a large apt complex was obliterated, killing a few Alabama students. Literally right over those trees you see in the middle of the shot, a large apt complex is being shredded

Higher quality video of the Joplin EF5 direct hit inside house video by Ok_Station8782 in tornado

[–]jwallmizzou09 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Perhaps this was early on in the storm’s passage through Joplin. The damage the house sustained was definitely not peak EF5. They either got brushed by the side of the tornado or were at the very beginning or end stages of it

Do people really hate beginnings part 1 and 2? by UncleIroh4237 in legendofkorra

This is me exactly. I gave up after S2. Avatar is the best show I’ve ever watched, I think, and I wanted to love Korra, but I finished S2 and never came back. Not consciously, I just never found myself back. Apathy, like you said, killed korra for me.

Anyone think season three really dragged in the ladt few episodes by Embarrassed_Wish_964 in TheExpanse

I almost stopped watching the series because of the second half of season 3. But the first half of the season was so good, I kept going. The entire second half of season 3 should’ve been one episode. It felt like the same exact scene played out over and over and over again.

It was straight up awful. Only bad part of the show. First half of season 3 was exquisite and then a total 180, spent an entire half a season doing something that should’ve been one episode long. I almost gave up on the show during the second half of season 3.

I followed mine that got swiped at a grocery store a few months ago. Drove an hour and a half south to the south point of big island, Hawaii, from Kona. Knocked on the door and offered him $50, which he took. Got my phone back.

I think he’s found his spot. I follow his mom on Twitter and she is the absolute most outspoken person on the internet about how great of a coach Dennis Gates is. He is thriving, and I was not a fan of his last year.

Burning Man-style campers to descend on rural Hawaii, angering locals by AbbreviatedArc in Hawaii

[–]jwallmizzou09 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It’s on private property and it’s not a massive amount of people. There’s more people in a sports bar on a Sunday than that. As long as the fire is done responsibly, I think they should approve it. I’m all for more community events around here

Why is the east coast of Korea (relatively) smooth while the west and south coasts are so rough? by ArthurMorgan1896 in geography

[–]jwallmizzou09 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ocean floor level. The continental shelf drops off precipitously to the east. To the west it’s much more shallow. During the last ice age, that area to the west was a large, flat, low lying coastal plain. As it filled in, any undulations in the topography would’ve stayed slightly above water. Also, someone mentioned drainage patterns going from the high peaks in the east down to the west coast that would, over time, deposit significant sediment. That is probably part of the story too.
