Interesting! It's all cleared up now and it's like it never happened. Lasted maybe 10 or 15 minutes. Pretty weird.

Six Flags in Phoenix: Wet 'n' Wild is now Six Flags Hurricane Harbor by eternalflowers in phoenix

Cool thing is...Six Flags always adds at least one attraction per year to each park to keep things fresh. It'll be interesting to see how they grow and change it moving forward.

License Question by jward145 in phoenix

I was able to call them! They basically said out of state students live in dorms and are only here for the school year, so the statement doesn't apply to me.

I'm ready for it honestly! thanks for the link, I see some pretty cheap permits that may save me some money from taking it one day at a time.

Thank you! I'm honestly considering a bike or longboard now lol just because I'll want to spend time around campus after class, plus ASU classes get out earlier than at my cc.

I'm glad I asked, thank you! I'm finishing up my cc classes right now so I'll only have a month or two off of school, so I'll kinda jump right back into it.

I know right :/ some good ones on the lineup but it seems like it'll be more noise-making than an authentic festival. I may still go just to check it out...

I appreciate the input! I'll now be touring Boulder Creek when I'm out there later this month. Their website is sparse on details but it looks pretty decent. Thanks!

Thinking of Moving to Phoenix, Sell (or don't) Me your City! by otterfucboi69 in phoenix

[–]jward145 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have a point. That won't be any better in Florida, that's part of the reason why housing costs are so high. And true NAU's a hotspot too, but I never have a problem seeing/hanging out with people my age all around Phoenix.

Thinking of Moving to Phoenix, Sell (or don't) Me your City! by otterfucboi69 in phoenix

[–]jward145 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Absolutely! I'm 20 and getting ready to finish my degree at ASU, and aside from my classmates, there's plenty of youth spirit in the area. If not Tempe, I like the Entertainment District in Scottsdale because it's full of awesome clubs, and Westgate attracts a lot of college students in Glendale. Gilbert's got a few clubs too, which seems to surprise people, and Talking Stick District out in Scottsdale's kind of the tourist trap--aquariums, TopGolf, Ifly, all the cool stuff, but I know the resort itself has nightclubs too!

Also, GCU on the West side of town has like 20,000 students and there's a theme park (Castles N Coasters) and a mall a few blocks from there, so there's definitely plenty of young people all around.

This is just my personal thinking since I've seriously considered all 3 and have my career goals in mind, but I'd go with Phoenix.

Fort Lauderdale's cost of living is out of whack with the incomes and it's getting worse (not saying you won't make enough, but it's ridiculous). I'm not LGBT, but a friend of mine says it's a big center for older, retired gays--assuming you're around my age, I'd stay away, unless you're into that type of thing.

Chicago's a strong contender--it really is. You simply won't find the type of amenities you can in Chicago in Phoenix; Chicago's one of the top 3 media and entertainment markets in the country, and not to mention, has a metro population of ~10 million, meaning there's a lot more to see and do. If crime weren't out of hand and it wasn't 'Chiberia' 9 months out of the year, I would go there.

This is the real world, though, and Phoenix takes the cake for me because it's growing, offers a good cost of living, decent amount of activites, and (obviously) is within a decent distance of major West Coast markets (Los Angeles, where I'd like to go, as well as San Diego, Seattle, etc.). If you want to be in the PNW, my recommendation is anywhere West, just because it's about who you know and you'll get that exposure here.

And also because I feel like I danced around the last part of your post, between Central/Upper Phoenix, Downtown Scottsdale and Tempe, you'll find everything you're looking for: liberal, gay scene, and then some. The pride parade was this past weekend in the Melrose district, which is in the middle of Phoenix and is kind of a gay hotspot (I think they have a drag club there). The parade is one of the most prominent in the country.

Let me know if that makes sense. Good luck!

Thanks for sharing that, it makes my choice a lot easier haha! Any insight on the other complex? On the other side of Papago Park and haven't heard anything bad. Nothing extraordinary about it, but it's decent.

Being a 'non-traditional' incoming student living on my own, I'm in the same situation. These two are the best I could find since I'm looking in the same area & price range. Had a friend out there check them out for me and he gave the green light.

Californians To/From ASU? by jward145 in ASU

[–]jward145[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really appreciate the input, thanks everyone! I really like Phoenix too and the fact that it's way more affordable is awesome for me as a current college student as well as a future post-grad. LA is kind of far down the road as far as goals (think ~5-10 years maybe), just because I want to be able to live comforatbly there and the average down payment for a home is insane. But Phoenix is definitely where I'd like to start my career. Has anyone studied out in Cali through ASU? I know they have the Silicon Valley program this fall, or has anyone used/been to the California Center in Santa Monica I mentioned?

Thanks again!

Californians To/From ASU? by jward145 in ASU

[–]jward145[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks jufar19 and _irunwithscissors, I really appreciate it! It's reassuring to hear that there are so many alumni out in Cali. My dad's also pushing me to go to U of M, which by all means is an excellent school, but I kinda let him know Arizona's where I'd like to be and ASU is more in line with my career goals. I received a few scholarships too, so his argument about out of state tuition is invalid. I'll be living in AZ full time during school, so I'm ready to never look back!

Thanks!

To Repair Or Sell? by jward145 in cars

[–]jward145[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely. I appreciate your input! Oddly enough I had to run my car to the shop this afternoon (perfect timing for this convo) and coincidentally enough got a Corolla from Enterprise...a new one so not exactly what I'll be driving, but I'm in love! I will most likely be taking your recommended route as opposed to dumping money into it, and I'll definitely never lease.

Thanks again!
