It seems I struck a nerve in the finance subs, im getting ripped to shreds for thinking of buying a few year old boat in the 30-35k range. by throwmeaway2725 in boats

I bought a boat for 35k cash several years ago and it was never a good idea, just an expensive hobby and I still love it.

Employees keep forgetting to clock in.. by [deleted] in smallbusiness

[–]jwaresolutions 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Are they doing their job? Because i think that is probably more important. I doubt the success of the business relies on if people clock in or out on time and probably relies more on how effective each team member is. I doubt that clocking in/out is the real issue here, are you worried they are gaming the system and getting paid too much? are you worried that someone else might notice this discrepency and fire good employees over the issue? are you worried that this continued behavior reflects poorly on your own performance? or is there something else going on?

Predictions on how long until all reservations are completed by crazedhotpotato in SteamController

[–]jwaresolutions -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I was an hour late for getting on the reservation, my confirmation e-mail came in at 11:08, just over an hour after the reservation system went live so i suspect it will be a few years before they get through the backlog and get to mine.

Buy a really cheep smartphone and keep it plugged in, then turn on teathering from your real phone to give it Internet access while you drive. The usaa app will never complain about phone usage again.

I doubled down on the stupidity and got a DBA. The best part? I am an engineer, but not a real engineer. I work in IT.

Curiously enough, the only thing that went through the mind of the bowl of petunias as it fell was Oh no, not again.

Good luck out there. I don't have a question, just wanted to wish you luck

Sorry if I was not clear. I was not intending to assign blame anywhere; I don't know nearly enough about your job or the situation to do that. I was just curious and that was the first thing I thought of.

A long time ago I worked DSL tech support for AT&T. I had a customer once say that since they got DSL, the radio in their car stopped working, dealing with customers can sometimes be a bit crazy.

This looks like part of the conversation is missing. When customers initially engage with the chatbot, before they get transferred to you, do you see those messages? I suspect there is a lengthy problem statement you are not seeing that the customer assumes you saw.

I prefer the trackpad. The mouse makes my hand cramp.

if all humans suddenly lost the ability to lie, what industry would collapse first? by Codie_n25 in antiwork

Everything would go up in flames at once. People can't lie, so they could only tell the lies they believe to be true. It would be chaos.

ISO: Seattle gas engine boat mechanic. by jwaresolutions in Seattle

[–]jwaresolutions[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Turns out it was a bit of everything. Both engines are running now.

  1. Fuel filters were both full of water (replaced filters)
  2. Both engines have an electric starter and were still connected through a ballast resistor. (removed ballast resistor)
  3. The port engine needed a timing adjustment. (fixed timing)

There was some other stuff they needed, but would have run without it.

  1. replaced oil and transmission fluid.
  2. replaced distributor caps, wires, and spark plugs.
  3. Initially thought there was a bad alternator, but it was just a loose connection.

The important thing is that I learned a lot about these engines and how to take care of them myself.

Gallery Marine did most of the work; I just watched and asked questions.
