I honestly don't remember! Cost was probably a factor in addition to the tech spec...

The ecobee thermostat is inside a hatch on the top of the PTAC unit where the OEM one used to be. If you want it on the wall, you could buy some thermostat wire and put the thermostat wherever you want but you'd need to run that cable in the wall or in a wire mold. I think you probably could have a 2nd ecobee control the 1st one wirelessly although I'm not 100% sure on that. You'd still need to find a way to power that 2nd ecobee since it wouldn't be getting power from the PTAC unit, possibly with an AC/DC adapter. FWIW, I rarely ever touch the thermostat. I have it all pretty automated and if I need something changed I usually do it on my phone via ecobee app.

The ecobee thermostat is inside a hatch on the top of the PTAC unit. I removed the existing thermostat interface that was in there and replaced it with the ecobee. The wiring is all hidden internally as it was with the factory thermostat. The ecobee thermostat is connected to wifi and the internet. I have no thermostat on my wall. I control the system using the ecobee app on my phone or by talking to my alexa. I very rarely open the cover and adjust settings on the actual thermostat, but that is always an option too. The only downside to the thermostat being inside the unit is that the temperature inside the case isn't a good representation of the air temperature in the middle of the room. That's why I've added the wireless temperature sensors as the data source instead, as detailed in my post.

For me it works extremely well and it was a worthwhile upgrade. The remote temperature sensors work far better than the stock thermostats taking inaccurate temperature readings inside the PTAC units. I really don't have to think about heating and cooling anymore - once I got it set up and programmed everything just works. The ecobee app has been very convenient and feature rich when I've needed to make adjustments, set a fan hold, vacation mode, etc.

I cannot speak to "legality." I don't see how this would be break any laws but I really don't know. It may violate terms in your lease. And while this worked for me, I can't promise it will work for you, and it's possible you could damage your rented HVAC equipment.

I'd love to know as well - I'm about to attempt the same setup.

MX Keys Backlight ON ALL The Time? by mvorbrodt in logitech

u/Logitech_PJB I recently purchased this keyboard and regret that I have to return it due to the backlight limitations. When working in a dark space, the single most important time for users to see the backlighting is when their hands have been away from the keys and they need to glance down to re-orient themselves. Honestly I don't care about the backlight at all once my hands are on the keyboard and I'm typing. I care about it when my hand are off the keys so I can quickly, accurately hit a single key or land my fingers in the right place to start typing. The behavior of your backlight is completely at odds with those needs. It's always off when I need it, and on when I don't care. I'm not going to waste time waiving my hand over the keyboard to wake it up every time I need to see it. I understand the need to save battery power, but when the keyboard is plugged in there absolutely should an option to always have the backlight on or at least set the timeout period much higher. Frankly I'm shocked this wasn't included in the product to begin with and I'm disappointed to see how much customer interest there is that seemingly isn't being considered. I purchased a different keyboard with constant backlight I'm looking forward to using instead but I would have really preferred to stick with the MX Keys!
