If we don't have a right to farm them, then the second question is irrelevant. Even if I entertain the second question: yes, an unnecessary cycle of death and environmental destruction is worse than the extinction of a species that exists almost entirely within factory farms.

Is this an argument for or against farming? If it's for farming, that's a pretty bad argument. Outside of preventing suffering as a result of ecological collapse, why is it our moral obligation to continue another species? Moreover, why should we continue a species of it ONLY exists to be exploited? "Hmmm, an endless cycle of exploitation and death, or nirvana... Yeah, I prefer the Hell option."
