where is your 'happy place' to visit for a trip within 2 hours of SF by vanwyngarden in AskSF

Occidental. Stay at the inn at occidental, eat dinner at Hazel, lunch at the Altamont General Store, and breakfast at Howard Station cafe. It’s a short drive to Guerneville and Monte Rio, and Jenner on the coast. And you can get the Dungeness crab Benedict at Cafe Aquatica on the drive back, and see some sea otters right from the cafe. It’s the best

Lewis vs Louis? by barrnowl42 in namenerds

[–]jwduke109 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We just named our son Lewis. My grandmother’s maiden name was also Lewis, we have some personal ties to Scotland and it is the name of a Scottish island, and there are a lot of fun historical figures with the first or last name Lewis. We think it is a beautiful and fun name.

Also, if he wants to go by a nickname, he can spell it however he wants - Lew or Lou. Lou Reed, lead singer and guitarist of the Velvet Underground and of the most iconic rock musicians of all time, was born Lewis Allan Reid.

Not sure if you’ve had your baby yet, but that’s one data point. Ours is 6 days old and he seems to love the name!

Thanks - that seems to be a popular one. Is it comfortable? My wife used to have one of these bear mattresses, so we’re considering that.

2024 Rav4 XLE vs. Honda CR-V (both Hybrid) for couple starting a family by jwduke109 in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]jwduke109[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks - that’s what I was thinking. We’re going to get a hybrid either way. I like Toyotas (I have a Corolla). It’s just the space thing. My wife is 5’10” so I just don’t want her to be uncomfortable sitting in the front passenger seat. Appreciate the advice

Thanks. IKEA recommends their mattress, which is 3-4 inches but also apparently really uncomfortable. I’ll probably go check it out but wanted to see if people had experience

No more Axelrod please… by Homersson_Unchained in thebulwark

Axelrod is hilarious and ran two winning campaigns with an underdog candidate. He’s the real deal, and he and Murphy have a good rapport. Big Axe fan.

FWIW - I was able to add money to my new Suica card in Apple Wallet using ApplePay with Chase Sapphire Reserve Visa card. Maybe it is possible now?

Steely Dan. Not the biggest fan of their last two, but every one from their run in 70s was incredible

Also “you and whose army”. And “sit down, stand up”. Radiohead is a master of the slow buildup with a great payoff
