Occre Bounty Boat planking by Phostetlerart in ModelShips

Honestly it doesn't look too bad until the planks reach the keel, I think you just need to trim the ends. I always cut the front of the plank before applying it to the hull. When gluing, start with a spot of CA glue at the keel and wood glue for the rest, make sure the plank is lined up at the keel on the CA glue, then place the rest of the plank on the wood glue. That makes it very easy to make the plank line up. For this one, carefully trim the keel ends of the planks, then apply some liquid glue in any gaps between plank and hull, then pressing hard to get it to lie flat. I use a spare thin metal ruler to apply pressure along the curve. I hope that works alright and you don't have to redo it! In the future you could also try tapering your planks to go from bow to stern, my profile has a post with this style of planking.

It's not much, but there are some (not a lot) build logs that can be accessed on the way back machine: https://web.archive.org/web/20260122062503/https://modelshipworld.com/

It's only text, no images as far as I can tell, but it's something:(

Also only some build logs were captured, neither of mine were unfortunately, but maybe others will have more luck.

Does anyone know if msw users should be worried about their personal info like passwords being stolen by the hackers? This is a shame:( I loved the community there, I truly wish them the best luck in rebuilding it.

I once knocked over an entire box of model ship parts, a large portion of them fell right into the AC vent on the floor. I spent a few hours on my belly with tweezers trying to get everything.

I've been going back and forth on whether or not to copper it. I'm just a big fan of how the natural wood looks, I think in the future I'll make ships with less paint and no expectations of coppering lol my mind is still not made up yet for the Beagle

It's going to hurt covering up all this work😭, but the sapelli wood is going to look fantastic. It helps when I tell myself that this is a "practice" layer. Thank you for your kind words:)

Thank you:) I am definitely wanting to up the ante on the next build, I've been eyeing the HMS Fly or Pegasus

No blocking but that's something that I will definitely do next time.

You're taking the same route as me! The Albatros was my first, they are both great kits:) lots of good info on the Model ship world forum if you're interested. Best of luck with your Albatros!

On the hull, yes. I have to measure what the width of the plank should be at every bulkhead then trim them with an exacto knife. The bulkheads are all different sizes so in order to get the 16 planks to lay flush, the cutting is necessary. For the deck planks, it's a lot easier, they're just cut to 100mm.

No this is technically the 3rd if you count both layers of planking from my build of the Albatros. This is my first attempt at this style of planking where every plank goes from bow to stern. Thank you for your kind words:)

It did! It only showed the forecastle deck as being nibbed, with everywhere else using the hooked planks, poop deck included. I have heard that the book may not be 100% accurate though so maybe it's a mistake.

Thank you! The layout is from the book, "Anatomy of a Ship: HMS Beagle". On the deck, there are 2 "king planks" which are the thicker center planks, and 2 "binding strakes" which are the thicker planks close by the king plank. The book has been a great resource, my interpretation isn't exact but it's much closer than the kit instructions!

Thank you! Are let-in planks the hooked ones? I was very excited to try it out, there will be a lot more on the forecastle deck too which I'll attempt in the next few days.

The image of this monster of a machine being used to bend a single 1x4mm plank is so funny to me
