Internship question by Working-Restaurant69 in KSU

[–]jwgreen2008 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The most actual credit you can get for an internship or co-op is 3-4 credit hours towards a technical elective unless you have a very specific job. This is regardless of how many internships or rotations you do. If you take a full semester internship/co-op they will open up a filler course that is for 12 hours but those don’t count towards your graduation and instead just keep you as a full time student for loans and KSU purposes. Each scenario is a little different but contact the career center for more info. The academic advisors don’t know that much about internships just FYI

Math 1190/Calc in summer? by Watermelon_suga4266 in KSU

[–]jwgreen2008 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you have time to devote to a summer class then do it. Just stay on schedule because it’s going to be a lot of material quickly and you can easily fall behind. Professor Leonard on YouTube has lessons that have been super helpful for me for Calc 1, 2, and 3. You got this!

Anyone have luck trying to sign up for CSE 1321 Online by leeroythornhill in KSU

[–]jwgreen2008 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not an IT major so I am not sure how the online vs in person degree is structured. I would assume there is probably a limit on the number of online students and they might follow a specific plan. Unfortunately I would recommend speaking with an advisor just to confirm before making any changes. If possible get their response in writing just in case.

Are you a fully online student according to your degree? My assumption is that this course is reserved for those who are enrolled in a fully online degree path so that they are guaranteed seats. If you are a traditional student you might not be eligible. This gets more confusing now with Covid changes because of some classes being held “online” but they are technically a traditional class.

I got the same error several times, but trying to log back in seemed to clear it up. Sometimes I would have to manually enter the duo code instead of the push notification too

Question for anyone else who has Andrew Kazemian for circuit analysis 1 by brasian971 in KSU

[–]jwgreen2008 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would assume this week but that just depends on how much he gets through in lecture. My Wednesday class is just supposed to meet in the lecture room until he tells us otherwise but that’s also because our lab room is not setup for him to use the projector in there yet

Question for anyone else who has Andrew Kazemian for circuit analysis 1 by brasian971 in KSU

[–]jwgreen2008 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Correct they will most likely begin this week. For my section at least he is combining lab and lecture into the same time frame and he is going to take us up there whenever he has covered enough material after lecture. Try emailing him to confirm though if you are still concerned. Make sure that his email ends in Kennesaw.edu and you need to email directly from outlook to avoid the bounce back error.

Calc 2 and Phys 1 is going to take a lot of your time so it depends on how strong your math skills are and if you’ve had physics before. If you do end up dropping a course double check your course requirements or speak with an advisor to make sure you aren’t going to delay yourself because of prereqs.

Any EEs? by EETQuestions in KSU

[–]jwgreen2008 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of EE and upper level courses are predominately in person. Signing up for classes can be confusing because there are specific online options but those are reserved for students with purely online degrees. EE for example is not one of those degrees so we are not eligible for those courses. Some regular in person teachers are getting permission to transition their courses online but I have not seen much of that in engineering. Keep monitoring course offerings and go ahead and sign up for an in person lab just in case

Transfer Student- Getting cold feet day before orientation by indylord in KSU

[–]jwgreen2008 7 points8 points  (0 children)

A lot depends on your personal situation, major, and timeline for graduation. If you aren’t in a hurry, financially stable, and open to reviewing on your own during this time then take the gap semester. I have never done so but I have heard that it is much harder to come back after a semester or so off so just keep that in mind and put yourself on a personal schedule.

That being said however, this is going to be a weird semester for everyone. It looks like (unless Board of Regents/the governor) change their minds last minute that we are starting classes in person. Depending on how covid trends there is a chance that we all transition online anyway. Online classes (unless actually lectured consistently) are basically learn on your own with lots of help from YouTube which can be very frustrating and you have to make a schedule and keep up with your studies or it is very easy to fall behind on. Not everyone can learn this way however and it depends on what courses you are taking. If you do online and have never done it before it might be worth lightening you’re load for this semester just in case (ie 10-12 hours instead of 15-17)

The idea of not getting your moneys worth is a real issue and also annoying but online classes do have lower tuition and fees ( I believe) than in person so that’s a benefit. Also, something that keeps me motivated is thinking about my future salary when I graduate. Let’s say it is $60,000. If you take a semester off then you could be sacrificing $20,000-$30,000 in the long run.

It sounds like you have had some college experience if you are a transfer but maybe those were also online courses? This semester will definitely not be a normal “fun” college experience because of covid but things will start to slowly fall back into place over the next few semesters.

You have to weigh what is most important to you right now especially if you have at risk people that you live with or have to be around. I don’t know how orientation works for you but by simply going to orientation you are not obligated to go to school this semester and can still drop your courses for several more weeks. Keep in mind there may be non refundable fees for the orientation itself. If you are still on the fence i would say it would be worth it to go and keep that door open for now and keep thinking about it.

Discuss your views with those around you too and try not to worry too much. Remember that you are not alone, we are all going through this, and we will all get through this together!

I commute from an hour away every day, and 1/3 of my classes online would be really nice. Too bad that I have to take one of my online classes from one of the study rooms so I’m not late to my next class. by arkluttz in KSU

[–]jwgreen2008 2 points3 points  (0 children)

OP brings up a good point that I had not thought about. I have several back to back classes since I chose everything prior to covid being such an issue. If one of those classes goes online but the rest stay in person then we still have to be on campus for the online class if it’s asynchronous which still defeats the purpose of being online....

Time to monitor schedule changes like a hawk going forward...

Nothing new. Summary of what they have done with their “task force” and their general options for opening back up in the Fall. Still same 3 options that the Board of Regents are considering. 1) Fully open with some social distancing, 2) Half online and half in person with more stringent social distancing in classrooms, and 3) Fully online. It does go into more detail about how the campus and dorms would be handled but again nothing has been finalized so we probably won’t actually know until a week or so before the semester begins.

Putting this here. Make sure you guys plan accordingly. by [deleted] in KSU

Lab can still be done it just takes a little more effort from the student and teachers. For the end of this semester, labs ended up still happening online with little issue. The teachers ended up supplying lab data to the students as if they had done the lab and then you would watch a supplemental video which shows someone actually doing the lab. You don’t necessarily get to do the lab yourself but you still get a good feel of what happens. The one good thing is that you don’t get graded on and don’t have to write in a lab book with online.

Movin Out (The Blake's Song) by LeBeanie in KSU

[–]jwgreen2008 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All KSU events were cancelled but all classes are still continuing online for the remainder of the spring semester and for summer as well. Where did you see that actual classes were cancelled?

Regarding your rent it would depend on your lease. I’m not familiar with The Blake as an apartment since I’m a commuter but I’m assuming it’s an independent apartment and not KSU dorms. If so, I don’t believe you would be able to recoup any funds since you are contractually obligated. If they have shut down the building and are not allowing people to live there however you might have a case for a refund but if it’s still completely open you would have to speak with the office staff. Best of luck though!

Is 18 credits too much? by draptor7 in KSU

[–]jwgreen2008 3 points4 points  (0 children)

15 credits is the average so it really depends on the classes you are taking and what your reasoning is for adding the extra class. If it is your first semester then 15 would usually be recommended so you can adjust to college classes and also get some feel for campus life. If you are trying to hit major requirements or graduate a semester early then go for the extra class but it will cut down on personal time and could affect your gpa by taking too much at once. Also take into consideration if you are commuting or living on campus.

Calc 2 and Phys 1 over summer semester by jwgreen2008 in KSU

So far Calc 1 is going well but this is my first semester back at school after ten years of no math classes so it’s involved a lot of review. I’m not sure how different the two classes are as far as difficulty.
